Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Lately, I have become extremely interested in computer science (thanks to my current intro to comp sci class, where we are learning C++) and want to be able to apply it to engineering in the future. My main major is probably going to be ME and I was considering EE as a double because I heard that EEs learn a lot of computer programming/science.

How much comp programming/science do EEs learn? Is it almost as much as CS majors learn?

I know that at some schools, the major is even called EECS, which I think is a hint that the major involves a lot of comp programming/science.

Electrical Engineers at UCLA have to learn C++ with some Assembly language on the side... That's all they have to learn... how I envy them!

Ehhhhhhhh...that's not....how much I was looking for..=/...

If you want to do CS, then just do CS! :)

Maybe....but pretty doubtful. I want to do ME and either EE or MatE...I just wanted to know how much programming I would be able to learn...from my majors and from the classes I would be able to take as electives...

Good luck double-majoring in engineering...

"Good luck double-majoring in engineering... "

Meaning? It's not TOO hard to do! I know people doing it and someone who doubled in EE/CS and even got good enough grades doing it to be accepted into Kellogg at Northwestern. This is someone whose ACT math score was only at the 20th percentile of people in his engineering school, too. Explain, please?

EE & CS are related actually like a more hour CompE but doubling in unrelated engineering like he said MechE & EE is pretty much impossible. It's just not worth the tinme or effort required.

...that's too bad...I thought that double majoring in those two would be a really good combination since I would have the knowledge to make mechanical objects and be able to add processors to them or something and make them work with electrical energy.

Then what do I do? Do I just take as many programming (CS) classes as I possibly can in addition to my major? I wanted to do a double major...I just really like programming...I don't know. I assume that a double in ME and AE is perfectly fine...a double in CS and ME would probably be somewhat useless...how about double in ME and MatE? or ME and Phys?

It doesn't make much sense to double major in (AE/Physics/MatSE) even if it complements ME if you don't like it. Of course, if you actually like one of those fields and want to doule major, go right ahead. It might be difficult to double in unrelated things like ME and CS, but if you really like programming, go ahead and minor in CS. That way you get the classes and the experience in the field you like and it's not as overwhelming as a major in something unrelated to ME. That's my idea, at least.

Take EE or CS tech elects. That will show your willingness and interest in those areas.
