Electrical Engineering Help

Hey everyone,

I read a lot about electrical engineering (trying to find what to major in) but I couldn't find an adequate description of the job. I still don't really know what they do on a day to day basis so if anyone can help with that. Feel free to provide any information (schools, job outlooks, etc).

Please try not to merely copy and paste a description from another website as I probably already read that and hence writing this thread since i didn't really understand it and get a lot of information about it.

Thanks so much!

Electrical engineering is a discipline, not a job - there are many different jobs in the field, and they can vary quite substantially. My first job was primarily an administrative job, sitting behind a desk, writing reports on system failures and our corresponding design changes, and pushing all that paperwork around. My second job was straight up design, working alone or with a small team to design, build, and test components - probably 90% behind a desk designing, 10% in a lab testing. My third and current job is a mix of modeling and analysis, with a majority of my time working with a team to create predictive models of the systems we design, and a bit of time traveling to test sites where I can monitor and compare to the predictions. Other jobs can be significantly different still - I know people who spend ALL their time in an electronics lab, or out in the field, or in a plane. It really depends on what kind of work you are doing.
