I have been waitlisted at UC Santa Barbara. Assuming I do get in, should I attend UCSB or Cal Poly Pomona. My major is Electrical Engineering.

People have told me Cal Poly Pomona is an extremely good college for undergrad engineering. But UCSB sounds more prestigious but I don't know if its Electrical Engineering department is any good.

My parents want me to attend Cal Poly Pomona but I say otherwise

UCSB has an excellent EE program. It is a beautiful campus and will not disappoint. I really like CPP too. My son got in the honors program at CPP and our family toured the school in Jan. He got into both schools no problem. However, ultimately we chose Cal Poly SLO.

I’d say go where you want to and feel most comfortable. But before you make your choice check out both schools job placement rates after graduation. CPP is really quite powerful in that area and I know that the grads make good money. Not sure about UCSB.

All the engineering at ucsb is hella awesome.

I suggest contacting the EE department or career center at both schools and asking what employers are recruiting EE grads this year. That will give you an idea of what your future employers in industry think of each school.

My guess is the lists will be similar. And so in that case you choose the one, like OsakaDad says, that you like better.

UCSB is a superior school to Cal Poly Pomona in practically any metric. Plus it’s way more fun and in a better area. Go to UCSB.

so in terms of cost would UCSB be the better choice? Will UCSB give me a better undergrad education over Cal Poly Pomona?

If I decide to go on to grad school does my undergrad college matter?
