i'm coming into rice as a freshman next year in the engineering school. although i currently attend a very rigorous private school, i'm nervous that the academics at rice will be too challenging as a EE.
can i feasibly pursue an EE major and have a (very) active social life?

I apologize in advance for how much I post here, since I’m sure you would prefer to hear from students!!! However, DS is rising junior at Rice in ChemE, and came from large public HS which was moderately rigorous. He has done fine at Rice, and manages to do about 8-10 hours of work/study per week, play club sport that travels quite frequently and practices 3x per week, hang out with friends/girl friend and participate in lots of oncampus activities and workout at the rec center some. (New rec center coming in August!!! :)) I think it gets a little tough around finals, but he really loves it there. :)

oh, 8-10 hours sounds VERY reasonable! and i heard that chemE is the most difficult major. thanks for your reply!

Yeah, ChemE is supposed to be incredibly difficult. I’ll probably be doing MechE or EE myself, and I too am pretty insecure about whether my math skills are good enough and whether I’ll be able to successfully complete the major.

that 8-10 hours is how much he does his work study JOB, I’d imagine he spends quite a bit more time than that on school work lol

“DS is rising junior at Rice in ChemE”

i wish him luck next year. I just finished Junior year as a ChemE. breathe
