Electrical engineering

How difficult are the upper level (Junior/Senior) classes for electrical engineering? im currently finishing up my 2nd year. Can someone tell me what they believe is the hardest class?

I don’t know whether you’ve already taken it or not but E&M, I hear, is pretty difficult.

Emag & DSP weren’t fun. When I was in school Emag was the class you always were scared of. It also went by re-mag and three-mag.

At my alma mater (PSU), the junior year is generally considered the toughest. Threre are 4 core courses (Circuits, E&M, Control Systems, Signals and Systems), and most students struggle with at least one, usually E&M and/or Signals and Systems. If I remember correctly, a distinct majority wound up repeating at least one class.

The bright side is that the senior year is easier - a tough senior design project, but otherwise you’re picking electives that presumably you are good at and enjoy.

Emag is THE EE class that sucks the most. It was the class that almost made me have to switch out of EE. I had to take it 3 times… it’s that hard.

It really depends on the school…

Frankly around here some upper level classes are pretty easy, some are killer. It has as much to do with the teachers as the topic…

wow…so emag huh?..well i still need take diff Eqs so thats one my plate right now as the “hardest” class so far…is there anyway i can maybe starting prepping for that class you guys speake about??

What kills most people about E&M is the math - since you are just starting that coursework, you can make some extra effort here that will pay off later in E&M.

Could you tell me what kind of challenging math EMag involves? I would like to know so I can work harder in those areas now before its too late (because my school only offers EMag once a year so if I fail it I will be way behind).

According to the EE curriculum at CCNY, the prerequisites for a class titled “Electromagnetics” are Differential Equations, Linear Algebra & Vector Analysis, and Physics II.

I can’t wait until I’m finally taking all these classes people fret about.

^^ Haha me too so that I can talk about my experiences in those classes (hopefully that involves bragging about my A+).

E&M was so hard…I switched from EE to a math major.

It could include any or all of differential and integral calculus (possibly multivariable), ventor analysis, and complex analysis. It might require linear algebra, but most courses don’t use that set of techniques. Basically, get real comfortable with the equation exp(kr-wt) and everything you can do with it. Sorry I cannot be more specific, at this point I have had so many E&M classes I have trouble remembering what was in the intro course.
