my albert account updated and i have the student tab now and not just the applicant tab. and on the student tab, it says housing and it links me to the electronic suite. what is this and what am i making my $1,000 deposit for if i haven't even selected my dorms?

while we're on the subject, do any current alumni have any suggestion on what dorms are the best? (i.e. ups and downs of each, etc.)

thanks!

Alums won’t know diddly. I’m a 2011 grad and half the freshman dorms are different than my year. Best bet is asking current freshmen or sophomores. From the profiles I remember though:

Weinstein - Best food, ok dorm
Hayden - Party dorm
Rubin - ****ty dorm, cheapest
Brittany - Ok dorm, some kids got kicked out for spraying shaving cream out the window (not that this is relevant).
Uhall - Forget if this is still for freshman. Nice dorms, Union Sq, relatively far from the Wash Sq. hub.
Third Ave - No longer a freshman dorm also, I think. I lived here, pretty nice place with a computer lab (quite handy) and the most godawful food on the planet (supposedly much better now).

from what i saw, one of the third avenue ones is available for freshmen. i’m kind of leaning towards that because i like to cook a lot and they have kitchens. but if other dorms are good, i might change my mind.

I got an email today regarding housing application and it says that esuite is due june 1 along with the application.

It’s housing reservation payment

Click on 2012 - 2013 Proposed Undergraduate Housing rates to see which dorms are being offered for freshmen.

[Rates and Payments](http://www.nyu.edu/life/living-at-nyu/on-campus-living/housing-lottery-and-applications/rates-and-payments.html)

The first seven dorms in the Pdf are listed as Traditional or Apartment/FYRE in the second (type) column. FYRE stands for Freshman Year Residential Experience.

Third North is currently a freshman dorm and will be one next year as well. Brittany is being renovated midyear so is only being offered to upperclassmen and only for the first semester.

If you can, attend one of the Accepted Students Days. They’ll give tours of most (if not all) of the freshman dorms.

NYU Local usually runs a yearly series about the dorms. <a href=“NYU Local”>NYU Local;

See the pdf I posted above for the 2012 - 2013 Freshman dorms.

Not that it matters much, but FYRE stands for first year, rather than freshman year.
