wud wellesley be considered a highly elegant and sophisticated college compared to most other liberal arts colleges (esp. the other sister schools)?

Someone's been watching a little too much Mona Lisa Smile! Judith Martin is not the only alum to point out that the movie doesn't accurately depict the school in that era (hint: there were never etiquette classes or a home ec department). Wellesley has its share of pearl-wearers, but the trend is not unique to the school.

Honestly, all liberal arts colleges oscillate back and forth between elegant and sophisticated halls of higher education and class to down-to-earth, modern opportunity filled places, depending on whom they are trying to sell the product at the time.

Yeah you can't really define specifically that way, because you have the elegent ladies and the rugged ladies...some are elegent during the day and wild during the night, who knows!

When I visited Wellesley, I didn't get the vibe that it was more buttoned-up than other schools or anything like that.

I DID; however, get the vibe that the students are very, very poised, eloquent, and intelligent.

I second what catsushi said. Some are elegant during the day, wild at night.

Now that it's winter time, the first adjective that comes to mind when I see my classmates isn't really "elegant." It's more like... "rolled out of bed."

It's 1 in the morning, the last day of finals. My papers are scattered everywhere, and I am sitting in my own filth of essay drafts. I am wearing sweats and my hair has decided to start a revolution and is in a disarray. Most of the other girls here are in the same state, one is standing to the right of me in her jammies eating a pear. Yes, we are very classy.

hahahaha. yeah, i pretty much roll out of bed, brush my teeth and wash my face and then head to class. that's the beauty of an all-women college - i have no reason to look fancy. however, there are many girls that do dress quite elegantly and sophisticated - it's all up to you. we don't have a dress code.
