OK. I had my interview this Tuesday, I recieved an AP Scholar with Distinction Award today, and my town’s superintendent offered to write me a letter of recommendation to Harvard today.

Question 1:

Do you think Harvard might have already decided on me by now? (or will they wait until my application is complete)

Question 2:

How can I let Harvard know that I received the AP award? I mean, every little bit helps, right?

Question 3:

If my superintendent writes my recommendation tomorrow and mails it out on Saturday, will it make it to Harvard on time?

Question 4:

I sent a letter to Harvard (and filled out the form) to send my summer school’s transcript to Harvard (yes, to Harvard). I never received a response from Harvard about it; am I to assume that they received it?

Question 5:

Is there any way to check the status of additional recommendations and if they received my updated resume?

I'm sure that your town's superintendent doesn't really know you nearly as well as your teachers do, so a letter from him might appear gratuitous or like you're asking him just because he's the superintendent.

To answer your question IMO a recommendation or anything for that matter mailed to harvard would do very little, if anything at all. Also, don't worry about the AP scholar thing, the scores you put on the supplement should speak for themselves

might appear gratuitous or like you're asking him just because he's the superintendent.

I'm not asking him just because he is the superintendent. He presented to me an award today, which was aired on my town's cable channel. He then announced (i.e. I didn't ask him but since he mentioned it... why not?) that he would be willing to write me a recommendation letter.

I just sent a tape of my double bass playing last night, but that was only because they asked. I think the way it works is that decisions are being made this week and next if you are going to be accepted, but if you are going to be deferred, that's already been decided.

Compbase2835,
I was just wondering is there anything that you put in your app that may have prompted Harvard to ask for your tape? Do you mainly classical player or a jazz bassist? If they dont ask for anymore, do you think it is too late to send any supplemental material?

It's probably too late to do anything - I'm pretty sure mine was sent out a few days too late. By now they've probably made about 80-90% of decisions. I called today to see if they got it (but it still wasn't processed) and she said they were already swamped in regular action applications. But I'm sure you can always send something and if you are deferred, they will look at it later.
