Eli Whitney Program 2020 Thread

@signpainter they rolled them out over a couple of weeks I think, and it looks like they started a bit later this year— I
would hang in there, I think there is a pretty reasonable chance they’re still scheduling interviews.

@RainbowBritey I recognize your name from threads from last year! You sound like a pretty amazing person - and thank you for dropping in to this thread to give us some information. I was wondering if you could shed some light on what the interview itself is like? Also, how is Williams so far?

@ti36xpro I think that the interview experience would probably differ greatly depending on the interviewer and interviewee. My admissions interviewer was wonderful, she was at home with a sick child and I too am a parent so we chatted about that, we spoke about the colleges to which I had applied and the strange way each fit our needs but differed from each other. We spoke about the various course offerings at Yale, about EWSP and the community and how students like me found a space within the broader environment. It really felt like an opportunity for me to ask questions of her? My interview with the student was a little bit more awkward and formal, they told me a lot about their experience at Yale and we spoke about language requirements and access to classes and class sizes etc. I asked both interviewers a lot of questions about the city, about schooling for my daughter and so on.
Williams is spectacular: one of the reasons we chose to come here was that they don’t offer graduate programs in our areas of interest so this was our one opportunity to live here and experience the magic that is Williams while we can, and will, apply to Yale for PhD. We are so happy here, the community is great and genuinely supportive and classes are small and fascinating, my classmates are smart and driven and kind and collaborative rather than competitive, and the resources and opportunities we are offered are unbelievable. Williamstown (and the Berkshires more broadly) is the most beautiful place I have ever lived. They have really taken care of us through this virus chaos too. I am so pleased with my decision to come here. I think we all figure out what kind of undergrad experience we want through this process-- for some people that is Yale, and for others it is Williams, only you can know what is right for you.

Hi everyone,

I just discovered this thread and thought I’d pop my head in.

I also received an interview request on the 16th. Very excited!

I wish you all the best of luck with your interviews. Hopefully the admissions committee is feeling generous in the number of applicants they admit this year

How did peoples interviews go? What did they ask you? Hopefully with the uncertainty of next semester they are looking to fill lots of spots.

Did anyone else do the zoom meeting? More people participating than I expected… yeowza!

@brooklyngal16 I was in there too! Agreed - more people than I expected!

Reading back on this discussion, I see a lot of conjecture about how many applicants get interview requests and how many applicants get accepted… I thought this info might be helpful for anyone this year or next year who comes back and reads this thread.

There were 27 of us in a live info session yesterday with current EWSP students. There is another info session tomorrow which will have additional applicants (unless everyone happened to be in yesterday’s, but that’s highly unlikely). So we can confirm that 27+ people received interview requests this year.

Anybody join the second info session yesterday? Were there as many people as the first one? Also, are all interviews complete?
