Eli Whitney Students Program 2015

Application submitted, app materials all matched up… playing the waiting game now.
Anyone out there with me?

I’m right there with you… After combing over last year’s thread, I’m actually surprised this one isn’t more popular. Is this your first time applying?

Yep, first timer.
I was surprised no one had posted before I did, considering the past threads.

Did you notice the ability to upload a photo with your application materials on the app status page after you submitted?
There was no mention of including a photo on the application page or anywhere else in the application… I thought it was odd. Wondered if it was for portfolio material.

Nice! Yeah, I’m a first timer as well. If I recall, I don’t believe the photo feature was on the application. Have you heard from them? All my materials didn’t match up until Thursday. I’m sure the admissions staff is still reeling over freshman/traditional transfer apps…

My materials matched up around 04/02 but I had sent almost all of them in early March. So they were probably sitting there waiting when I hit submit on 3/31.

Haven’t heard from anyone at Yale yet. I’ll post here if I do, for sure. I hope you will also! If it doesn’t help us, it may help quell the curiosity of future prospects in years to come. I appreciated that those active in past threads were vocal about the process, it gave an idea of the rough timeline at least. If we base our expectations on those past threads, it seems like if we’re going to get interviews we could be hearing any time now.

I feel like I have a zen outlook about it – well… zen interspersed with a sudden surge of nerves here and there! I guess I feel that I’ve applied and “it is what it is” but then I have random realizations of the incredible possibility before me and that insane idea that I am even applying to Yale at my age and after all I’ve been through… and that I have a remote chance at all and I freak out a bit. But I’m actually finding I’m savoring the journey itself… it’s both terrifying and overwhelmingly exciting at the same time! How often do you get to feel like that in life? Pretty cool.

@Ccecon112 are you local or will you have to travel a long distance for an interview?

I have the same outlook regarding the whole situation; it’s pretty surreal! (Hopefully we both gain admission.)

I’m in New York, not too far from New Haven. How about you? Any updates I receive I will keep you posted. The anxiety is a killer!

I’m not too far, won’t need to fly in at least… trying not to give away the “confidential” element here by being too specific. Have you visited the campus before? I have but only briefly.

Fair enough. Yes, it’s a gorgeous campus.

Will you be applying for financial aid? I need to work on that!

Do you have to submit that by the 1st?

Yes, May 1st is the deadline for that. I really have no idea what I may or may not qualify for but I figure it’s best to apply and not assume one way or the other.

Have you applied to any other non-trad programs?

Just Yale for me… How about you?

Hello!
Quick question any chances for international student who dropped out of college in 2009 to get into the program? I havent had any formal education since. Work ex, yes. Recommendations yes. Thinking of applying for the next session.

@Ccecon112 just Yale for me too. If I don’t get in, I may step back, reassess and possibly consider other programs but I really feel Yale is the best fit, so that’d be tough.

@ewspd11 This is what the Yale website says:
“Academic Preparation
Those considering applying to Yale but who cannot present recent academic credentials are encouraged to take classes elsewhere before submitting an application to the Eli Whitney Students Program. Prospective applicants should take courses that are similar to classes offered at Yale, such as courses in the humanities, social sciences and natural or physical sciences. We especially encourage candidates to take courses in writing, math and foreign languages as these will prepare students for the rigor of Yale’s curriculum. Candidates should take higher-level courses when possible. Online classes are not advised as they are not transferable to Yale. Courses can be taken at fully accredited institutions, either four-year or two-year, public or private. A number of Whitney students previously attended community colleges.”

They also encourage you to take standardized tests, like the SAT (I retook it-- in my 30s… okay, late 30s… that was an interesting experience itself!)
This is only my opinion and I’m just a hopeful applicant but I’d say it takes at least a good year of prep to give the application it’s due, so this is the perfect time to start. I’d, definitely research the program ASAP, consider the steps needed (enrolling in a local school, taking classes, completing testing, continuing hone your resume etc.)
Yale says, the program is for “non-traditional students with exceptional backgrounds and aspirations,” if you feel you fall into that category and are up for the effort of the application process, go for it! Why not?
What do you plan to study at Yale @ewspd11 ?

Hi
I’m just curious. Why didn’t you guys apply as transfer students instead of EWSP? What are your backgrounds and what do you do for a living if you don’t mind me asking.

I have an interview scheduled now. I applied as an Eli Whitney student because I have been out of high school for more than five years. I am now a full time student.

@AnonBurner2015 , how exciting! When did they contact you?
Are you local to CT or will you have to travel to get there?

I applied as well! My transcripts just got matched up. So I guess we will see what happens.

@Abendstern , I found out within the last week. I don’t live in CT and will be flying in for the interview. I am pretty excited about it. Makes the idea of getting in seem real now.
