when i first filled out the apps, i noted that i would not be applying for financial aid (need blind schools anyway)

since that point in time, my family's financial status has changed. Is it possible to apply for and receive aid this late in the game (post-admission) or is it a lost cause?

No, it's not a lost cause. Odds are you won't get what the student will that applied in January; but it's not a lost cause.

are they allowed to completely deny me of it?

It is not so much that they are allowed to completely deny you, but the do have budgets. At this stage of the game, most of the grant/scholarship aid probably has already been allocated.

As scottaa stated, you may not get the "free money" (grants/scholarhsip aid) that someone who applied earlier in the process (especially if some scholarships had a filing deadline), but your package could be heavy on loans, which a school can also use to fill your demonstrated need.
