Eligibility in the Local Context - Does it matter?

Anyone here have the ELC top 4% of their class status? I do... but I'm not sure it will really help.

Does anyone know how much UCLA looks at this?

From what I understand, it makes the acceptance rate go from whatever it is for the average student (like 22% or something) up to like 60%. So yeah.

well it’s been helping me so far. got into davis, sd, and likely letter from UCLA (likely = early acceptance). but i dont think it plays THAT big of a role. many students are getting regents, honors program, etc. w/out ELC.

I wasn’t notified that I was supposed to give my high school permission to release my transcript for ELC, so they never did. I doubt I’m in ELC now due to that, although I am ranked 7th in my class of around 700.

So far I’ve been accepted to most UC’s with Honors/Regents, so I don’t think it plays much of a role if you’ve got the grades anyway. If you’re still unsure here’s what I’ve been accepted to:

UCSD (Honors Day Invite)
UCI (Campuswide Honors)
UCSB (Regents Scholarship)
UCR (Regents Scholarship)

I think it matters, but if you are qualified anyway if you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter. If that made any sense. I was supposed to be ELC, but my school made a huge mistake and had me in the junior class instead of the senior class, don’t ask me how. So far though, I’ve gotten into the UC’s that I’ve applied to, so hopefully the pattern continues:)

On a side note, I know someone who had ELC but was rejected from Davis, so who knows.

^ That’s almost impossible? If I’m not wrong, everyone who got ELC also got guarantees from Davis, Riverside, and Irvine

It’s possible if you’re missing some requirement like your visual/performing arts class or test scores or something.

what if we are top 4% in our class but out of state? it’s like ELC but it technically (by their definition) is not since it only applies to CA students

They might not know that you’re in the top 4%, but seeing as you are, you probably have a high GPA which they will recognize.

Out of state ELC wouldn’t really help you at all lol, or at least to my knowledge it doesn’t.

My best friend in high school and I were both in ELC, and I got accepted and she didn’t. It may help, it’s not the guarantee that it is at other campuses. UCLA uses holistic admissions, so they’ll also be looking at test scores, what kind of classes you’ve taken, extracurriculars, leadership, all that jazz. My guess would be that the reason why the acceptance rate for people who have ELC is higher is because (generally speaking, of course) people with ELC also tend to be more involved in extracurriculars/have good test scores/etc.

Okay, that clears up a lot! Thank you all for your help.

I’m so nervous for Wednesday!
