Eligibility question

Hello. I’m wondering why colleges don’t accept transfer students who have completed more than 2-2.5 years in another college. I know that to get a degree from a college you have to complete at least two years there. But what if I want to change a major and study as a freshman in a new college? It means that I’ll study there for four years. What does this requirement have to do with that?

You can’t. Colleges can set their own rules. But generally, if you have attended another college for a semester (or year) you cannot apply to a different college as a freshman.

So, what happens if I want to change a major? Let’s say I completed the first year in Physics and now I want to transfer to another college and start majoring in Computer Science. It isn’t that I’m going to be a CS sophomore, is it?

In which case you may or may not be able to complete all of the new college’s graduation requirements in 3 years, but you would still not be considered a freshman.

Thanks for reply. So, there’s really no way to become a freshman again?

Please do remember that even though you might transfer umpteen credits, you might find that none apply to your new degree program and so you could very well end up spending close to four years at the new institution.

Contact your targets, and find out what happens for a student in your situation.

Thanks for reply.
