I decided to start this thread when my child brought up an interesting point, he asked what party school looks best on a job app. Apparaently this came to mind when he heard some stories about Harvard party life. So I ask all of you out there, what is the party school that looks best on a job app?
ex. Any school in New Orleans
ex. Florida and Florida State are good party schools
ex. Rice U has a wet campus

I don't think it's the school but what you do there. U of I is supposedly a good party school but if you go there, party, and graduate with a low GPA then it won't matter what the name says. I love U of I parties but I still work very hard to keep a good GPA in engineering which can be hard partying or not.

People at Duke party pretty hard, but I'm not sure if I would classify it as a "party school"

uva?

UW-Madison is a reputable school and it's known as a party school

you are definitely going to find a party at ANY school in the country if you look for one... except for the notorious exceptions, U. of Chic.. the service academies, Bob Jones, and so on. With that said, two schools that I know of with a Tremendous party reputation (and rightly so) are UC Santa Cruz and Chico State. I forget where, but theres a list of the top party schools in teh country, those two are usually in the top 10, along with of course the schools in Miami and New Orleans... but I think UCSC has a better rep than any other "party school" and chico is one of the better Cal State schools (and probably the 3rd toughest to get in too)

you are definitely going to find a party at ANY school in the country if you look for one...

Nah, mine(carthage) has parties but it's near impossible for you to know when and where unless your in the "know"(you need a good group of friends)....not to mention many hosted parties are invite only. Trying to get in a party is like trying to get into a upscale night club's VIP room.

Many people will lie to others when they ask about parties inorder to keep them low in count.....

Best elite party schools: Dartmouth, Duke, Williams, Stanford.

I heard UPenn was a party school too.

Washington and Lee, Dartmouth

washington and lee is ranked #1 for hard liquor and for beer on campus by princetonreview

but i heard from a friend going there, that this was because one of the frat houses keep filling out surveys for princeton review

Stanford? Hahaha, definitely not.
I know a bunch of people that have gone there on recruiting visits for various sports and complain about how there's never anything to do, especially with parties.

Clearly your friends were in the wrong place.

penn...for sure!

supposedly washington and lee is getting screwed hardcore for the princeton review thing

elite party schools? most of the top northeast schools. i would say patriot league schools can party the best. when i was at colgate some kid told me that they rank in the top 5 for alcohol consumed per capita. dont know if its true but it wouldnt surprise me. lehigh can party too

tulane .......................

Almost any school you go to will have some good social life there or revolving around the campus, especially if it's a public. I go to the University of Kentucky, and similar rumors abound here ("Hey, did you hear that 5% of Budweiser's Kentucky sales come from UK students?"), and I'm sure they do at most other schools. (We did rank 7th on some website for "The Schools with the Best-Looking People" or something, so that's pretty cool too) I figure that even at elite schools, that wonderful thing we call socializing is still alive and well, because even smart kids like to party. You might want to ask around, but almost every college will have some awesome parties going on somewhere every single weekend.

If you're looking for parties as in "frat parties" and the like, specifically, then all you would have to do is check out what percentage of student body is Greek and that sort of thing. Playboy and many other entities (?) also have rankings of the best party schools. Arizona State University and UT Austin seem to rank consistently high.

By the way, UK is supposed to be a dry campus ;), so that sort of thing will almost be irrelevent if the student knows how to keep his stuff under control.

sewanee, wisc, iowa, indiana, cornell, vanderbilt, rhodes

The Ultimate Work Hard Party Hard Schools:

Vanderbilt [only top 20 to make playboys party list]

Washington and Lee [Known for large greek presence -- but school cracking down]

UVA [great social tradition, excellent academics]

University of Michigan [good social scence w/respected degree]

[tie] Lehigh & Tulane [throws great parties, and still ranked top 50]

if you are a prodigy these Ivies can still party:

Dartmouth

UPENN
[NOTE -- BIG DROPOFF FOR THIRD]

Princeton [eating clubs, etc.] // Cornell [ugly girls hinder the party scene]

[i wish this list was longer]

Honorable Mentions:

Duke [better academically then my top 5; but most frats/parties are significantly weaker than the ones listed on top]
Penn State [anyone who takes showers regularly can find a mate of the opposite sex to go home with; university park is semi-respected]
University of Georgia [has been increasing selectivity in admissions and is probably one of the best parties on this list; but still UGA wont WOW your employer yet]
UT-Austin [Don't mess with Texas]
Colgate/Williams [If you are cold, have a beer]
NYU [no campus blah blah whatever; quality bars are in downtown NYC]
UW-Madison [some very social kids; good rep]
Richmond [although the parties arent stellar, the student body is pretty cool as a whole and is social; good academic rep too]
Wake & UNC [both have strong academics and decent parties]
UFlorida and Miami [highly regarded regionally; and can definitely party hard]

HALL OF SHAME:

Harvard: Things got so bad they had to hire a 'fun czar'

University of Chicago: These kids should be required to take an intro to partying class

John Hopkins: Hard to find good parties. The kids who party hard generally have to go to other colleges in the neighborhood [usually Loyola-Maryland]

--

When I applied to schools it was important I attend a school with a good social life and competitive academics so I've done alot of research on this. I can't think of anything better than having enjoyable college years while still landing an awesome job. You only get one chance to have the college expierence so its important to have good memories. so look into my top 5 but regardless HAVE FUN and STUDY HARD whereever you go. :)
