Elite Vs. ACI

Hey guys,
Which prep place is better? Which one has better teachers and/or a better reputation? They've both been in business for around the same amount of time (Elite has non-US branches , too)...

I'm a potential hire as an SAT teacher at both these places, and I wanted to see which one is a better company. THANKS!

You should post this somewhere else.

The majority of CCers don’t believe in prep companies so you might not get much help in this forum. I’ve never heard of those two companies, but good luck.

I’ve not heard of either company, and as a previous poster said, you won’t find many prep-course-experts here.

Both are franchises that cater to the Asian communities, especially in Southern California. ACI is run by Chinese businessmen from Taiwan, whereas Elite is a Korean-based tutoring service. ACI is widely known to have plagiarized most of their material, though I’ve not examined their documents recently. Elite provides its own, in-house material, the quality of which can be … called into question on some occasions. Elite seems to be a better outfit in terms of how it treats its students, whereas ACI is designed primarily as a large-, shopping-mall style group education., hell bent on making bucketfuls of money.

Academically, both outfits encourage fast, accurate thinking through old-world mentality – lots of stick, not much carrot. However, students would be better off in small, independent outfits that have owners who teach a few classes themselves, such as Mrs. Lu’s in South Pasadena, and The San Gabriel Valley Academy in Alhambra. Both have been in this area for 15 years. The quality of instructor is critical.

I go to Elite right now as a sophomore. I used to score 1700-1900, but I now score 2200-2300. Seriously, GO TO ELITE. Their tests and curriculum are harder than the Collegeboard’s SAT itself, so it really prepares you. It’s a good and reputable place to work at, I assure you. The directors are helpful and the teachers are extremely knowledgeable. Granted, you’re going to have to work really hard to match up with the curriculum it presents but it is worth it in the end because you end up raising many students’ scores significantly.

^ Yeah, I said that only after a week of going through Elite because I tend to judge too quickly, as you have probably learned of me. Elite is a good place but obviously anyone can study by themselves without having to pay for some SAT academy.

/smile …

xiggi you are amazing

i go to elite and my test scores have risen by 300 points since the first time i took an SAT test.

There’s this one teacher at my Elite he was like:
Teacher:ACI sucks. I mean they don’t have me how good can they be?
Student: I heard ACI has cameras in their bathrooms…
Teacher: Really? I hope they’re not in the stalls also. Elite has cameras too. They’re in the air conditioning units. That’s why we call them the AC “eye” get it? hahaha

everyone in my class laughed cuz we were all so bored anything was funny haha

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtles-guide-sat-admissions-success.html</a> + CB Blue Book + Direct Hits > Any SAT prep company.

And Xiggi/Truffliepuff’s exchange, hilarious.

Anything Elite can do, I can do better. I can do anything better than elite. No you can’t. Yes I can! No you can’t! Yes I can! No you can’t can’t can’t! Yes, IIIIIIIIIIII Cannnnnnnnn!

But seriously, blue book +DH is all you need.

To some repliers…reread the question

He’s not trying to boost his SAT score.

^^^I went to Elite over a span of two years. It was three separated intervals, which lasted for about 2 months. But I have to admit that Elite was inefficient. The curves on Elite’s practice tests are spurious at best; for example, 8 wrong in CR gave me a whopping 730 and gave me false confidence.

Also, I see prep classes only useful as a source of motivation. Prep classes often operate on some sort of punishment system that forces students to do their homework, which is SAT prep stuff. But I found that after the prep classes, I fall back on my lethargic, de-motivated state, so I have had a regression in my scores after each of the prep classes.

As for the list of prep books, let’s add Rocket Review for Grammar Sections, and Grammatix, Critical Reading.

^ There isn’t a list of prep books lol. Use the CB Blue Book to take official practice tests and DH to brush on on vocabulary, only two things you need to do.

Eh If I’m correct, that book is what xiggi suggested in his famous method.

hahhahaha you had Jamie didn’t you!!! He said the same thing to our class!!! :o

oops! sorry I was referring to habeezy’s comment on the first page!
