elizabethtown college

need some info if anyone knows anything about it...

I know that they are generous w merit aid for students with pretty good stats. I know of someone attending. It is in rural PA, I believe it is not far from Lancaster and Hershey. I heard that it is in a boring area, although I find that area to be nice to visit. Sorry I cannot help you with more information. They have sent my S several mailings and if you visit, the app is free (he got a free app that eliminated the essay, but it is not on his list, so he is not applying anyway). I don't know, but the online app might be free. I did hear from the parent of the student attending that she liked what she saw, and got a good feeling about the student body.

My D looked into it for their allied health program and got their top scholarship with a 3.76 GPA and 1320 SAT. She never visited however as she didn't think she could handle the weather as the time got closer. She also had second thoughts about the program

I grew up in Lancaster County Pa and don't know much about E-town except that it is a decent school, but the really good students in the area who wanted to go to a great school near-by went to Franklin and Marshall.

Northeastmom - it's a myth that Lancaster County is all 'rural PA', eastern Lancaster is rural for the most part, but the area around E-town and other areas in central and western Lancaster are better classified as 'subarban'.

E-town is closer to Hershey (~10 min drive) than Lancaster city (~20 min drive), and there is stuff to do there, you just need to know where to find it. Hershey has a lot of fun stuff to do around the holidays (Candy Lane) and obviously during the late spring/summer (Hersheypark). There are also the typical movies, skating (ice, roller, and yes...a skatepark), laser tag, and from what my bro and sis say (they still live there...) has a fun bar scene. There are also many cultural events in Lancaster City, my brother really takes advantage of them, they include art exhibits, poetry readings, and other stuff of the likes. You would also be less than 30-min from Harrisburg (not a great city...), 1.5-2 hours from Philly, 1.5 hours from Baltimore, ~2 hours from DC, and ~3 hours from NYC. It would be very helpful to have a car, the mass transit in Lancaster is getting better, but not good at all.

I had many teachers growing up that got their degrees from E-town and I believe it does have good health care programs as well, as arizonamom said. As for other programs, I'm not quite as sure...but its a good all around LAC from what I've heard. I just want to let you know there are things to do in and around E-town if you are interested in attending.

Let me know if you have any questions about Lancaster County, I'm more than happy to answer.

I used the term, rural, kind of loosely. My point is that there are things to do, and I have enjoyed vacationing in the area, but many kids seem to get bored. Perhaps one needs a car, and if you do not have one that could be a problem, but I do not know for sure.

well, i'm interested in their business program. i plan on studying business or if i go to a school that doesnt offer it, international relations, economics or political science and then get into business.

i dont mind the ruralness, if any because i've lived in the city my whole life and cant imagine going to school in a major city.

i have a 4.0 gpa and 1300 (M/V) highest SAT score (1150 MV first time around). right now, i'm looking for a few safety schools/match schools to apply to. i'm applying to the university of scranton, vassar college and suny new paltz.

if anyone has any suggestions that would also be a great help. if anyone also knows anything about the business program at e-town, that would be awesome.

can anyone describe to me the religious presence on campus? overbearing, livable, etc ??

From what my parents have heard, E-town has a religious presence on campus but it's not too overwhelming. However, they did say it's a good reason to visit, to make sure it's not too overwhelming for you. Lancaster is the heart of the central Pa Bible Belt, but you can find non-religious people as well. Neither of my siblings are religious and enjoy living in Lancaster County (most of the time...). Again, please visit before you commit to make sure it fits...

As for the business program, my parents say they know people that have gone through it and enjoyed it. They also said its fairly highly ranked.

anyone else?
