ELKS 2019

IT SAYS STATE FINALIST ON MY APPLICATION. NO WAY OMG

My son made State Finalist - showed on his app page! Just have to upload some documents, it looks like :). We’re in VA.

My son made state finalist as well. Does anyone know how many state finalists there are, who will be vying for the 500 national spots?

Can someone post the link to the portal? My daughter can’t find it to log in and check her status.

My son made state finalist in Fl. No email…glad I checked her to prompt us to login!

@mjrube94 Maybe you could PM me? I tried to PM you but I don’t quite have enough posts on this site to PM people yet. I was just going to talk about our sons - I think somewhat similar, based on some of your other posts - and my son is also moving on to state with the Elks! Super excited!

So if you’re a state finalist, does that mean you’re guaranteed one of the 480 runner-up scholarships of $1,000/year?

I didn’t make states! :frowning: I am going to guess it was primarily due to the fact I was wayyy out of the financial aid bracket, but of course I am sure it was the rest of my application too. Congrats on everyone who made it to the next round!

So it seems that PA has 8 districts and 163 students advanced to the state competition. 16 of those will advance to nationals and earn at least the $4,000 runner-up scholarship.

In addition, PA takes the top 26 boys and 26 girls and awards them a one time $1,200 scholarship.

Yes I just saw it today!

Wonder if I could find the stats for Florida

Hi all! I’m a state finalist in AZ, and if anyone knows where I can find those stats I’d be very appreciative!

Ditto for Virginia

@bachbend - I found the PA info in their newsletter, but I’m not sure if the newsletters from every state are publicly available.

Hi all! I’m a state finalist in NC, and if anyone knows where I can find those stats I’d be very appreciative! Good luck to all the state finalists!

Reading past year’s threads, it seems like the finalists are announced in early March, yes?

yep! we are notified March 1. does anyone know if having an EFC of 0 but an AGI of 42,000$ will make me likely to advance to Nationals?

do we know what time we should expect decisions?

Not sure…crossing fingers but thinking our financials may put my son out of the running…

Financials don’t come into play except for the top 20 finalists. My son received a $4000 finalist scholarship in 2016, and we did not need financial aid.
