Elks MVS Scholarship 2009-10

I’m from Texas.

Did anyone from New York hear back yet?

is there a certain date that we should be notified by? i can’t remember if the application said anything about that…

Nope. The only date the website says is that national finalists will be notified on February 1.

But they told me that we would be notified every step of the way. And they also said the local lodges would be submitting applications onto the district level in late-November.

^Pfft. I wish that was true. My Lodge told me today I probably wouldn’t be notified unless I made Nationals! The head guy is calling me back tomorrow. I guess I’ll see what he says.

I got a letter from the lodge today saying i didn’t advance but that I was one of the top applicants so there was also a $50 check… so i guess that’s pretty cool, still about $25/hour :)

I had already posted this up as a new thread, but I didn’t see this one before, so I think this would be a better place to get help.

Can someone please help me answer what I should do in this situation? this week i received a letter saying that my application for Elks got moved on to the next level. However, the next day, i was reviewing my application, and I realized that i picked the wrong amount of money that my parents had made in the 2008 tax year, picking $0-$50,000, instead of $50,001-$90,000. What i’m wondering is:

 1. Is the financial portion of the application a LARGE portion of the application?
 2. Will this mistake kill my chances of going further in the Elks MVS scholarship?
 3. Is there anything I can do if it does?

eh  this could be a big problem if you keep advancing because eventually you have to send 1040s in… you should notify immediately also because financial need is 25-40% i think

yeah, ok thats what i thought i should do. thank you! wish me luck!

Good news from Pennsylvania! My head Lodge guy called me back today to say that my app went past the Lodge and District level and is now at the State level! He didn’t say anything about money, and I haven’t received an official letter yet, but I’m still pretty excited. :)

that’s awesome giftedgothic, congrats!

I dont know if this is too personal to ask, but just wondering from the people who applied on this thread, what was your financial information that you put down?

60000 was mine.

gifted, did you call your local lodge to find out if you had advanced to state? I’m thinking of calling my local lodge, but I don’t want to do that if they don’t have the information…

Did we have to check a box for income or fill in the exact amount? I can’t remember. Mine was under $50,000, more specifically ~$37,000.

And yes, I did call my local Lodge to find out. The guy there had gone to district judging and then passed on my app to the state level. :)

Financial need is 19.5% 195/1000 points –> see earlier post. My family income was over $100,000, less than $120,000 and I won last year. I’m not completely sure what this means to any of you, I’m just throwing it out there.

Just for informational purposes… the way I think the scholarship works this year is that if you are a national finalist (500), after moving past state, this is when you fill out an addition application. At this point, your guaranteed at least $4,000 and competing for up to $60,000.

I just called my lodge and they said my application was forwarded to the district level! =]
They should really do a better job of notifying people of this though, like a call or something. I wouldn’t imagine that my lodge received that many applications.

^Congrats! I know, right? I didn’t even get a letter yet. Let us know if you move onto states!

I just received a letter that says my application was reviewed by the district committee and that they were “pleased to advise” me that my application has gone onto the next level. Does that mean my application has gone to states?

Can anybody help me with this?

Yep, after districts, it’s onto states.
