Ellen DeGeneres's "common cement" speech to the Katrina graduating class

The thread with the the link to the text/audio of Ellen DeGeneres's commencement speech was removed, possibly because someone posted a youtube link, which isn't allowed. The script and video can be found on a website called "entertonement" (type entertonement dot com) . The youtube can be found (thank you, cdover) by searchint the title "In case you missed my Tulane speech, watch it here" on youtube. Its got funny moments. Ellen encourages the Katrina graduating class to be true to themselves.

^^^ correction, the script and *audio can be found on the entertonement website. The Video is on youtube and a Tulane link. Looks like several people have viewed it. Thoughts? Opinions? Comments?

I saw some of it on ABC’s Sunday show “This Week”. It’s funny but she could be prepared a little better, I think…:)

I believe you can access her speech in full by googling Tulane’s website, Commencement 2009. It was posted there afterwards and was also on Ellen’s website.

We were there in person.

This particular graduation was, hands down, the most fun graduation we’ve ever been to.
From beginning to end, the “Katrina Class” was acknowledged in a memorable way from the opening with the superb jazz band, the bagpipes, the fabulous speech by President Cowan, the moving video tributes to the class and their courage, Ellen’s speech, the fireworks, confetti-balloons-beach balls falling from the ceiling, etc. Simply fantastic.

Ellen’s speech was funny, moving, inspiring and memorable. In context of the entire celebrations, it seemed to hit just the right note. I’m so glad I got to be there–in more ways than one :)

^^^congrats, curiouser!! Sounds like a wonderful event. What’s next for your s??

Thanks, jym. S is job-hunting, just like most of his colleages. Looking for something that’s environmentally-conscious, willing to move anywhere. Just needs to get some experience. We’re hoping he finds something (and so is he) before his NOLA lease runs out this summer!

curiouser, how about an update on the job hunt? What was your s experience with the career center? It was a tough year no doubt. What anecdotal evidence can you share about his buddies and their success in landing positions? I know Ahmjad has moved from the career center to advising and was wondering if your s reaped any of the improvements that his reorganization brought.
