Elon Acting BFA

So my daughter is heavily leaning towards this program. Will go back for a second visit and we are still waiting on two other
programs but though their MT is wonderful I hear very little about Elon’s Acting BFA. My daughter loved the 1/2 day audition and felt good there but I feel very murky at this point in the process.
Any input from parents or students on this program? Anything at all might be helpful…

@laylamom, Thanks for starting this thread. Other inquiring minds on this board share your curiosity on this topic.

@laylamom and @katew529 I am definitely interested in this thread. My S was accepted to Elon and that is his top choice right now. He is waiting on one more - Pace - that might be slightly higher on his list but, since he has not gotten any phone calls (even from admissions), emails, or letters, he is fairly certain it is a no so all the info on Elon I can get is appreciated. We are going to Elon on 4/13 for their event for accepted BFA Acting students. I will give you an update if you aren’t able to make it.

We will be there as well @Griffilus and @katew529 …I am waiting for someone to chime in but…crickets!

@FourFoxes do you have any insight?

@laylamom I have no personal experience but I do know there was an article in Backstage that had Elon as one of the top 25 acting programs that you should know about https://www.backstage.com/backstage-guides/25-acting-colleges-you-need-know/

My daughter is freshman BFA MT and was one of 2 MT majors cast in the fall play - the rest were BFA acting majors and I thought their talent was phenomenal. I’m pretty sure my daughter has taken her acting class with some of the acting majors and she thought it was a great class. If you have some specific things you’d like me to find out from my daughter, I’d be more than happy to ask her. She is in love with Elon and we couldn’t be happier.

Btw, there is an “Elon parent to parent” FB group if your son or daughter has been accepted that may be helpful for general university questions.

If you need an invite, pls lmk

@FourFoxes Thank you so much for the info! My S was accepted to the Elon BFA Acting program so any info about the Performing Arts department and classes is appreciated.

Does your daughter live in the LLC residence hall for Performing Arts? We were looking at residence halls and would love some insight on if the LLC for Performing Arts was beneficial or if they preferred to live with non-PA students since they spend most of their time with PA students already.

I found the Elon Parent to Parent link and asked to join the group.

Congratulations to your son! My daughter lives 1 floor above the LLC floor in the Global Neighborhood. She didn’t want to be with other MT kids 24/7 and did a “random” roommate selection. She thought if she wanted to hang with the MT kids, all she’d have to do is go down a flight of stairs. Plus, she wanted to meet non-performing arts friends - her main reason for not auditioning at conservatory style schools. I think this is totally a personal choice with no right or wrong. Most performing arts freshmen live in Global - but not all. Some on the LLC floor and some not. She loves the Global neighborhood and has applied to live there again next year (fingers crossed). Global is right across the lake from the performing arts building. My daughter’s acting class was (what they call) downtown - beside the University Barnes and Noble. And, the rehearsals and performances for the fall play “Moment” were in Scott Studios - a very nice facility just a block or two off campus.

Global neighborhood is also convenient because there is a dining hall right there.

Thanks @FourFoxes! That is great information for my S. I wondered about being the the PA kids all the time. Sounds like it works out great to be nearby but not with them 100%. He was looking at Global first so it helps to know that would be a good choice. Hope he gets in there!

@FourFoxes - thank you so much for the info! Super helpful. I hadn’t known about the FB group - much appreciated!

@FourFoxes Also, congrats to your D on getting into the play as a freshman - 1 of 2 MT majors cast - she must have been over the moon! What play did they do?

Thanks so much. It was called “Moment” by Deirdre Kinnahan. An Irish play. Didn’t hurt that she is a redhead. :relaxed:

Hi All! I am a grad of the program (a few years out now) and happy to answer questions!

Hi @ElonBFAGrad! So glad you are here! My S will be starting in August so I am sure I will have lots of questions. For now, do you recommend any type of training that would really help before starting the program? Do you think it would help to have another PA student for a roommate because both of you are on a similar schedule or is it helpful to have a non-PA roommate? Last question (for now  ), my S is interested in doing a work-study to help with tuition. Do you think the program is too rigorous to have time to work? Thanks so much!!

Hi everyone!! We will be attending the Elon BFA Acting admitted student event on Friday. Let me know if you and your S or D will be there. I would love to put a CC name with a face (and to thank you for your help and support) and I know my S would like to meet his future classmates

@ElonBFAGrad, thank you! I would love to hear how you felt about your training and what kinds of work you & your classmates have been doing since graduation.
