Elon Early Action Class of 2017

Ok… I got an email saying that admission decisions would be available friday at midnight

That’s what we got too, an email…wonder why some people got a phone call and have been told of acceptance earlier than others.

wish we knew where they all lived. had heard that some reps call people and others don’t.

Makes waiting until Friday that much harder!! More nerve wracking!

Is the 4.27 GPA and 1960 SAT, with a 51% admittance rate expected by Elon? Or is this actual? Where did you find this information? These stats seem high for this school, more comparable to other schools with a more selective admission rate. From what I understand this is not reflective of their applicant pool.

Do not misunderstand my post - I am happy to hear this, I am just surprised and confused as I did not even think this was a profile of their applicants, especially not 51% of their applicants. I do not know many who have applied there, but lately after expressing my S’s interest I have heard of a few students currently attending, with stats considerably below this, (of course I understand this is an average).

Here you go HockeyMom. 1960 it is.

[The VP’s Perspective](http://elonadmissionsdean.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/)

One thing that I noticed when I was analyzing scatterplots on Parchment, Cappex etc. was that the “admitted” pool was skewed to the top and right compared to the “attending” pool. So while this is the average profile of those who were admitted, many of those higher students may be using Elon as a safety, and end up going to more selective schools, or schools where they get better aid, lowering the average for those who attend down to what we’re used to seeing for Elon, though I think Elon’s freshman profile is improving every year.

Once they can compete with financial aid, I think their stats will skyrocket.

I agree. We didn’t visit or attend an info session, but the literature they sent made us look at the school closely. We have friends who know students there & another has a friend just accepted ED, they love it. After much research my D took an shot and applied EA. If accepted then I’ll spend the $ to visit (we’re in upstate NY), but it seems like such a great school, I’ve heard nothing but great things about it.

Forgot to add-hopefully the $ is right also. Like it was said in another post, if they up their FA, then those with the higher test scores just might accept and enroll.

As the post #27 says, at most schools the “admitted students” stats are higher than the “enrolled students” stats. The admitted students with the highest stats are likely to also be accepted at more selective schools, and may likely enroll at those other schools.

Keep in mind that the GPA that Elon uses is recalculated, with +1 for Honors, and +2 for AP classes, so the 4.27 weighted GPA would correspond to a lower unweighted GPA, depending on the course rigor.

Still, it looks like selectivity is continuing to rise as Elon becomes better known.

Mom/chauffer: we did visit, and Elon is the prettiest school we’ve seen. The dorm rooms were also the biggest/newest we’ve seen with lots of options (singles in a suite atmosphere, doubles, quads, etc.) They really took the time to match my daughter up (for a tour) with someone in the same school in which she was interested, and even called her by her nickname (which she had only entered online when she signed up for a tour!) I couldn’t not have been more impressed with how personable they were. I really think they are an “up and coming” school and their stats will only go up, up up!

Mom/chauffer cont.
All that being said, you need to know Elon the town is TINY, and there is very little there besides the college. Raleigh, Chapel Hill are only 30-45 mins away but if your child is looking for anything other than a rural atmosphere, this might not be the school for him.
Mine wants a city, and is only applying to Elon because of their great programs in LA and NYC for her major.

Vvsitalia-we loved the idea of singles for dorm rooms, Elon was one of the few that offer them. Our upstairs neighbors have family near Elon and they raved about it, that is when my D decided to apply EA, it just seems to nice. Plus when speaking with admissions on the phone, they were incredibly helpful and put the both of us at ease when there was a transcript hiccup.
Good luck to you and hopefully our kids are accepted!

Ahhhhh so nervous…

Sent from my iPhone

I am going to ask, of the 49 percent of applicants without good news, what percent are deferred and what percent are rejected??

Just wanted to comment on the issue of phone calls - this is one of the few things about Elon that I don’t care for. My older son was accepted EA (not attending) and my younger son was accepted ED - happy freshman - and neither received a phone call. I personally find it unfair that some students receive a call a few hours earlier than decisions are posted online - while most do not. I see the post that treksixchick shared from the Dean - regarding this practice - I don’t find that it makes much sense and it just seems to cause undue stress and anxiety. I’d prefer they eliminate this practice.

I couldn’t agree with you any more… you took the words from my mouth-phone calls to less than 1 percent of applicants-that BS… you either call everyone or don’t call anyone at all. @rockvillemom… glad to hear your son is happy there… I heard bad news from Wake, but I hope Elon thinks I am qualified enough to get an acceptance letter.

8 and 1/2 more hours

I agree completely!! I don’t think it’s fair that some know a couple of days in advance while others are waiting anxiously! Just adds to the anxiety and adds drama!

That being said, good luck and fingers crossed!!

I completely agree about the phone calls. Especially with the way news travels these days (twitter, facebook, etc) it causes much unnecessary stress and anxiety for those of us waiting.
On another note… does anyone know anything about the Elon Engagement Scholarship? What it’s based on, how many are awarded, etc…

Sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere else, but does anyone know if tonight we just find out the yes/no/deferred info or do we also find out about any automatic scholarships? We’re in the CST here, so we only need to stay up until 11PM to get the answer  6 hours 45 minutes… Good luck everyone!
