Hi! So it seems like the acceptance rate for Elon EA is lower than RD. Why is this? Is it worth it to apply EA? I'm a good student (4.0 GPA (unweighted, don't know my weighted by heart), 28 on the ACT, took 5 APs and got 4s and a 5, and many community service hours). Should I apply EA?!

I asked their admission reps a similar question. They said that ED has the highest acceptance rate because they like commitment. They get the majority of each class from early action, they also get the most applicants EA apparently. I would guess that the # of slots left for RD are not many.

If it were my child I’d recommend EA just for the peace of mind. It’s so nice to know early. If you happened to get deferred you could always communicate with your admissions rep about any achievements from first semester that you weren’t able to list on an EA application.

This article is older (from 2009) but it explains a little bit about the 3 deadlines at Elon.

“We will admit 51% of this year’s EA pool. The average recalculated core GPA for admitted students is 4.27 with an SAT average of 1960 or ACT of 28. You all have traveled near and far, have demonstrated an impressive desire to serve others and have excelled on the field and the stage. . . . Our review is holistic which means we take both your academic and personal characteristics into consideration.”

Carriemik, in answer to your first question about why EA acceptance rate is lower than RD, I have a couple of thoughts on that:

EA pools tend to be stronger than RD pools because they tend to be more proactive students. . . students who are more on top of their college search, or who are so strong already they don’t need to wait for first semester senior year grades and honors to help them. So the competition is a little stiffer in EA.

With EA, the admissions team has the luxury of deferring students until they see what the RD pool looks like, so they might be more inclined to defer a borderline student rather than take a chance on accepting them right away and then not having space for some stellar student in RD. These deferrals don’t count as acceptances (even though these same students may get end up getting accepted during RD).

Has anyone heard yet about EA decisions? I know it’s says “on or about” 12/20. Worried about S’s chances. 1930 SAT, 3.8 (unweighted) GPA, two varsity sports (captain of both) plus one Club sport, 100 Comm. Svc. hrs., summer job, but not much else in terms of ECs (sports take up too much of his time to add anything else). Heard that sports are not looked upon as favorably as other ECs, but not sure if that’s true or just a rumor. Think his letters of rec. were great, essay was probably good. Did visit campus. Interested in hearing how he compares to others going the EA route.

Also waiting for EA decision for D. Lots of service hours including HOBY rep from school for state and national (WLC) programs, 32 ACT, 4.0 +/- unweighted, very good recs and essay. She visited twice and last tour guide was from same hometown where her HS is located so the tour went very well. Elon is one of her two EA apps. She also has four RD apps into various schools. A decision tomorrow would be great but the 20th is only a couple of days to go. I will post our results. Best wishes for your S.

The results will be out no later then 12:01am on Friday the 20th. They were posted at exactly 12am for ED applicants. With 1000’s of EA applicants vs 400~ ED applicants the site might be slow.

In any case, unless their schedules are engaging/challenging you shouldn’t worry too much. They might call some of the applicants on Thursday, but if you dont get a call dont worry, plenty of ED acceptance’s didnt get calls.

Hopefully your kids will joining our Facebook groups soon. :)

i have also heard that early action tends to be more competitive and i am worried that my stats wont be good enough for early action.

if someone could give me some feedback on if you think i will get in early or not it would be really helpful thanks!

No one on here can say for sure who will be accepted. Your stats put you squarely in the top 25% of the applicant pool. So, theoretically, Elon is a low match for you. BUT, the admissions process is very unpredictable…

Just got the email: “We are releasing decisions on OnTrack on Friday!” Almost had a heart attack. S2 Cannot WAIT much longer. Thinking of you all, best of luck!

I got an email with the subject “ELON APPLICATION DECISION” and freaked out!!.. Only to find out that it was just my account information… Such a cruel way to get my attention

All of the stats that have been posted are really high! I don’t think anyone on here will have trouble getting in! Although I have heard that they defer candidates that seem overqualified in the early action pool because they don’t like to be thought of as a safety and want to accept students who are interested in the school. But I have no actual proof of that that’s just what I’ve read on CC!!! I’d personally be shocked if you guys didn’t get in.

Good luck to everybody! I was accepted ED with a 1920 SAT, so you all seem very qualified. Again, good luck, be sure to post the results, and hope to see you all on campus next fall.

I hope it’s 12 am on the 20th that would be great, we r leaving for vacation at 7 am and will be flying most of the day so would love for my son to find out b4 we leave!

@momentscaught It will be 12am on the 20th. Barring server issues the results will be out and with ED they sent us emails just a few minutes after 12 with more information then OnTrack.

Did all EA applicants receive an email reminder from Elon Admisssions to check Ontrack for admissions status? My D, an EA applicant, got an email to check Ontrack tomorrow. Trying to determine if it is a blanket email to all applicants or just to accepted applicants. Seems sadistic to send a reminder to an applicant that is getting rejected.
