Elon Rep

Anyone else think the Elon Rep that was at a local theatre conference was kind of a jerk? Hard to want to go to school where the guy at the booth is so unapproachable.

Not sure about that guy, but they are unorganized and that leads them to be careless with your hopes and dreams. I would strongly suggest you think twice before associating with a reckless institution like Elon.

“reckless institution like Elon”?

What’s up with the Elon hate?

Really! Elon is one of the most highly-regarded MT programs in the country, and although having a bad experience with one staff member, or experiencing disorganization with the administrative staff can be very frustrating, and may even cause one to decide against attending, I don’t think I would write off the whole program as “reckless” as a result.

I agree I would not write off Elon, they are a highly-regarded MT program, I just wondered if other people thought the guy was difficult or if we just caught him at a bad moment.

I agree with Tracyvp. Although email correspondences were sometimes brusque and I was told to look at the “faqs” sheet posted online when I had certain questions which was annoying, the audition day ran smoothly and was not disorganized in the least. The following day my D interviewed for Fellows and that too ran smoothly. Don’t let one person’s attitude ruin an entire school for you because for every 1 bad one there are probabay 10 good ones!

I phoned Elon this morning to clarify what they needed from us for an apparent error on my part on either FAFSA or CSS Profile. The lady I spoke with was so nice and happy and totally down-to-earth! Couldn’t have started the day any better and wanted to share.

Traceyvp you said it very well.
ssjjkk let me tell you more about what I meant.

If you auditioned at Elon you received an email that led people to believe they were waitlisted. Then a few hours later the auditionees received an email rejection.

As it turns out what Elon meant is you are waitlisted for the school. (Please see the other posts regarding the confusion Elon created) Additionally, several parents on the audition ‘circuit’ expressed a similar sentiment. Elon’s letter was a poor choice of words that created needless heart ache-thus my term ‘reckless’.

While Elon IS auditioning kids, THEY are also auditioning for the parents & students. I am not careless with people’s hearts, and I don’t have much time for people (or institutions) that are careless with other people’s hearts.

Elon has a wonderful reputation for a quality program and very talented kids so I have no doubt about how great it is. For me, I need more than a good program-I require a school that has a heart too.

Understandably, people get defensive when less-than-positive threads on are posted on CC and try to change what was said. To be clear, I did not suggest anyone ‘write-off’ Elon. My suggestion was to ‘think twice’. Additionally I am not only 1 person with 1 incident. In this thread alone you see different people using words like “unapproachable”, “brusque” and “reckless” in different communications with Elon. I hope this is read in the constructive way it is meant.
