Elon stats for acceptance? Winthrop?

My junior son will be visiting Elon in a couple of weeks, as well as High Point, Clemson, Winthrop, and maybe App State or South Carolina. What does a kid need to get into Elon? Size-wise, Winthrop is comparable to Elon, but is Winthrop similar in other ways?

Thanks in advance - haven't been on this site much in several years, but I was actively involved here in 2002 or so. Wow. That's a long time ago!

My friend just went to Elon a few weeks ago. the mid 50% Sats are 1100-1300. My friend also stayed the night at Campbell and met a kid who got into Elon with a 3.6 GPA and 1200 SAT, so its not too difficult to get into, but the acceptance rate is 40%. He also said the campus was very nice, although the grass was all dormant. He liked Davidson better, although Davidson is a lot smaller. I don't know anything about Winthrop, sorry.

The only thing Winthrop and Elon have in common is the size of the student body.

Winthrop is actually a state school and not private. Elon is private and while inexpensive as privates go, a lot more expensive. That being said, Elon is much stronger academically than Winthrop.

Davidson is the creme de la creme of privates in the South. Bar none. Vandy would dispute that, but I would disagree.

Of your immediate choices I would rank them accordingly:

Clemson
Elon
South Carolina
High Point
Winthrop.

That is an academic standing. Your personal preferences, likes and dislikes about the campus, student body, location, facilities and objectives may differ. You have some good choices here and a good variety and I applaud you for that.

I am sure some other people may rank them differently than I did based on their own biases.

But what really matters is you and how you feel about the schools. I dont think you can go wrong at any of the schools.

You might toss in Furman if you are in Greenville to see Clemson anyway. Its well worth the tour and its a fine school.
