I would consider myself pretty preppy. I go to a prestigous private catholic high school thats a crazy jock school. Im really athletic and I am super social. Although I consider myself preppy I would deffinately find dressing up for an 8AM class a HUGE turnoff.
SO to what extent is this true?

Another question...?
whats the social scene like? - What kind of stuff is there to do on campus?
I like parties and such but I deffinately wouldnt say im into the harcore partying scene..but I am deffinately not into the doing nothing either.

What are the dorms like?

In general, what is the typical Elon student like, and what is the typical day for an Elon student like?

I really think you need to visit the campus (which is beautiful, by the way) to get a feel for it. We had no idea until we visited. My son is a freshman there and LOVES it.

Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus, but there is a variety of housing. He is in a flat which consists of four bedrooms with 2 students each, 3 baths and common room. Food services is pretty good, although you are required if you live on campus to purchase a certain number of meal plans every week.

There are lots of sports, although I don't know much about how the teams are. My sons' roommate is on an inter-collegiate rugby team. There is also an active Greek life. Freshmen are allowed to rush spring semester.

I don't think you would find it "too Southern." We are from the South, but one of the things my son finds most appealing is the number of friends he has made from across the United States, including Florida, Connecticut, Texas, Maryland, Indiana, Maine, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania...you get the idea. Elon is a small town, but right next door to a slightly larger one, and much larger ones not far away.

His classes have been fine so far. Elon is big on community service, so expect to do something like that as part of one of your classes. My son tutored elementary kids this past fall for his global studies class. Another big thing there is studying abroad. They highly encourage it and offer all kinds of trips and programs.

I visited Elon with my sister and she'll be a freshman there next year. Elon is becoming very popular in the northeast, so I doubt you'll find it too southern. She was actually in the minority in her tour group being from the south.

Thanks ahduke and georgia, I recently went to some info session they held in my hometown that got rid of most of my preconceptions. I cant wait to visit in the spring!

Not at all. We lived in Greensboro for about 8 years before relocating back to NE. I am quite surprised by how popular this school has become with Northerners. My child is currently a senior. Many of his friends do not originate from the south.
