I just returned from attending my daughter’s 2018 graduation at Elon University. I wanted to report to interested / prospective students & families that Elon delivered the exceptional education and university experience that my daughter and family sought. Elon fulfilled their mission statement ~ no doubt. My daughter is a strong and capable student but not off the charts brilliant. She wanted to study with like-minded and curious students with geographical diversity. As a high school senior, she had several opportunities for university study. During her four years, she interacted with many members of the administration, faculty, and staff. She was mentored by many. She was truly engaged in university life. In the future, I imagine she will genuinely support Elon University (with time and money) with the hopes that other students will be afforded the same exceptional and meaningful university experience ~ I know I will.
Long live Elon !
Thanks @Fatheroftwogirls! My son will be starting as a freshman at Elon this August as a BFA Acting major. He is beyond excited so it is reassuring to hear that you and your daughter were so pleased with Elon.
My daughter is a rising junior and she could not be happier at Elon. Her original choice was Fordham, but she was initially waitlisted there. She ultimately made it off of the waitlist at Fordham and was accepted, but by the time that happened, she had fallen in love with Elon and she has never looked back. Best decision ever. She is thrilled, so of course I am too! Love this school - so many positives.
It’s wonderful to see testimonials like this!
I was there as well on Saturday watching with pride as our son graduated with a double major in the business program.
There is no doubt in my my mind that our son went to Elon as 1 person and left as a stronger more independent thinker.
He turned this experience into a job that has him starting in a few weeks.
We can not thank the professors and the entire Elon community enough.
And as Leo says “Long live Elon”
I too can join the chorus. The amount of maturity, self-confidence and initiative my daughter has gained there in just her first year alone has been staggering. Her old high school was amazed at the growth. I couldn’t be happier.
Parent of a rising senior - we are already getting wistful thinking about graduation next year! My D has had a phenomenal experience. Elon is an outstanding choice for students who want to be engaged. As others have noted, the opportunities to grow both in and out of the classroom are exceptional. Long live Elon!
My daughter just started her sophomore year at Elon. She loves it and so do we!
Congratulations on your daughter’s graduation. A true milestone.
I’d be curious about her job prospects post-graduation (or perhaps she’s going to graduate school?). Elon has a high rate of job placement. Would love to hear some real-life stories.
I would be happy to comment more fully if you want to pm. But in summary, she went to graduate school as did many of her friends. It really just amazed me by the high percentage of Elon student’s moving to graduate education. Her story and experience of traveling for graduate school interviews was an education in itself. She was pleased to know that as an Elon University student, she was interviewing with other student’s with elite university pedigrees.
My daughter was waitlisted at Richmond and decided to drop off the waitlist and attend Elon. Best decision she has ever made! She is currently a senior with a couple solid internships behind her and a few options she is considering upon graduation.
I’m happy to come across this thread. My son wants to study engineering, and I like the idea of him studying engineering at a liberal arts school for the well-roundedness. However, I wonder what the outcome would be with regards to internships and job prospects. There’s a lot of positive info out there on communications, musical theater, etc. but not much that we’ve found online with regards to engineering. He is interested in the dual degree engineering program and now the new 4 year program at Elon. If he decides on Elon (waiting on financial aid offer), he will definitely have to take out loans and I worry about that burden on him. Any knowledge on engineering outcomes?
Unfortunately, I have no personal knowledge of the engineering program. I would think this info would not be hard to come by…I understand your concern about college loans. I instructed my children that the terminal degree in their field of study would likely be the most valuable degree. So invest wisely. Good luck.
We just did a tour at Elon and there was no mention at all of Engineering. Is it a joint program with another university?
@btween46 Looked it up myself and yes it is a 3+2 program. The partners are good ones with most familiar to me from my DS16’s search. I would encourage you to confirm ABET accreditation for all and think hard about the chances of your student wanting to transfer to the 2 school when the time comes before committing. There are other LAC schools with engineering that may get you what you seek without a transfer (Valparaiso, U of Dayton, etc).
Glad to have found this thread. Elon is in my son’s top two. I am a little worried about the party culture, not as a judgement (I know partying happens at all colleges) but as a matter of fit, and of options. My son is not into partying or using substances, but does like to have a social life. Will he have things to do on weekends? Are there enough like minded folks? Would love to hear from any current students or parents, PM if that feels better to you. Thanks all!
I think it depends on the student. My kid does not party at all, and is busy 24/7, with a very active social life with like minded friends. Those who wish to party are likely to do so at any college, and those who prefer alternatives can find them at any college as well. It really is the student’s choice-there are dozens of activities every week from which to choose.
