Elon University

Can anyone who either went to or visited Elon give me some information on the school? This includes academic programs (mainly their journalism and international relations) as well as the overall feel of the school, its students, faculty, etc., etc., etc....

There's a thread about Elon on the parents' board, started by someone who visited the campus last week.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=221192%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=221192</a></p>

i visited elon in april... i loved it, as did a bunch of people from my school who visited it at the same time. heres what i remember...

gorgeous campus. its kind of in the middle of nowhere.. there were a few cafes on the same street... further down there was some kind of shopping center type place with chilis and random stores, like linens and things type.

i went the day after easter sunday- and students get that monday off, so i unfortuantely saw no students really. but everyone who was there was very nice (faculty-wise). they had a nice introduction film in the info session... then it started to RAIN on the tour... but it didnt really change my view on the school, which is good.

great communications center if you're interested in that...

dorms were average sized... not big but not small... i think they pay students there to keep their dorms clean during the year for student tours. OH, there is a train thats smoewhere right next to the campus. so theres one dorm that will hear and feel the train go by every 15 minutes or something? and it goes throughout the entire night...

library is pretty nice with tons of computers. they had a nice bookstore. nice athletic facilities.

my problem with the school though....
-60% girls
-4800-ish undergrads
-i keep reading sites and comments about there being a smaller than usual amount of straight guys....

one more thing- they have a huge study abroad program... good for international relations?

Most LAC colleges have a 60:40 ratio now unless they also have a very strong engineering/computer science program. My daughter and I both loved Elon, it was a strong second when she was deciding. While the town where Elon is located is smallish, it's in an area with quite a few colleges and I think it's common for kids to go to the different campuses for concerts and socializing.

Thanks everyone! Anyone else?
