My son has been accepted to both Elon and Furman among other LAC’s. While both are very similar, Furman has a great Asian Studies program while Elon has offered him a slot in their Business Fellows Program. He wants to major in International Business with an emphasis on Asia. He is torn on his decision and we are running out of time! Any advice? Sewanee is also on the table as well…
Can you visit both?
We have. It a matter of details, each has something the other doesn’t.
How important is the Asian piece? If it is really important, then do Furman. Can you work in enough credits to double major in Business and Asian at Furman (probably not hard to do if you have some AP credits)? At Elon, you can only minor in Asian Studies but that might make it easier to combine with the Business.
Asian piece is very important. He has 10 AP credits. He is finding it hard to say no to the Fellowship but likes other things about a Furman better.
What campus did he feel was a better fit? Did one school feel “right”? Did he sit in on any classes? Both schools can probably give him the education he needs to get where he wants to go. Fit is important now.
With all the internships and connections due to the Furman Advantage Program, he might be able to craft something similar to the Business Fellows. At this point, he ought to go with his gut feeling cause he probably can’t go wrong wither way.
