<p>yah i figured it out. had to go on the mail.virginia.edu and register it a certain way and set up a reply-to address</p>
<p>You don't get to remove your <a href="mailto:computingid@virginia.edu">computingid@virginia.edu</a>, the additional is just an alias. Once you have it, you can just receive mail on it - no setup required. If you use the mail.virginia.edu as your email reading place then you may want to change reply-to address in the settings for consistency/looks.</p>
