Email crisis, please help!

Yankee, I agree that there is something not quite right. I took a look at the accepted student thread and you are absolutely right - there are plenty of students with lower stats that were accepted.

Just my opinion, and I may be way off base, but it seems like if your app was looked at kind of late (bottom of the pile to be looked at) you just got rejected or WL, b/c they were filled up with acceptances. I cannot see any reason why kids with these stats were rejected. I don't think that it is Tuft's Syndrome (esp. for Newhouse), b/c SU gives some nice packages to qualified students, so that they attend. They told my son in mid-March that they had thousands more apps to review, so not hearing meant nothing. I think that they basically accepted most students by that date, and the rest that you see here is an overflow that did not get a fair shake in the process. Again, this is not fact, just an observation, and my opinion based on the call my son made, and the stats of WL/rejected students that posted.

Agreed northeastmom, you and I discussed this before, but what I don't get (and guess never will) is why they would accept a full class of students knowing they had "thousands" of apps to review. Common sense would say that out of the thousands of apps still left, there would be a lagre percentage of students who were more qualified than those already accepted, and out of those, a large percentage would probably attend. Oh well, in my D's case, it's no big deal, other than personal satisfaction, since she has other options, but it doesn't seem right when it comes to those who's "dream" school was Syracuse.

Well, it may not have been entirely filled, but if not, I think darn close to filled. Again, this is just an opinion on my part. The only rationale I have is that they did not discriminate with all these apps between the 1430 sat and the 1200 (I am not talking about Newhouse). I just think if your 1180 and 3.2 showed up in right position for your review, you lucked out. The 3.7+ and 1400+ kid who was last, just did not have the same chance. I feel like the students were not looked at as individuals. When I heard about thousands more apps to review in 2 weeks, it sounded more like a "cattle call", than reviewing each app. as an individual student, who worked for years to produce the accomplishments and talents that they could offer to the university. Could all of these essays have been carefully read too? I doubt it.

northeast- i had thought of the possibility that being reviewed last could have created a disadvantage but if thats the case then i dont know how they even decide how to start going through the applications. my app was sent in november and people from my school who had gotten theirs in right before the deadline received their notifications two weeks before me.

again, im not doing anything until the letter comes in the mail, but if its the same as the email im at least going to call and ask for an explaination. it doesnt seem right that at least ONE person on this thread (all seem really qualified) didnt get accepted.

My son had his submitted very early too, yet also last to be reviewed, which wound up with a WL. He completed his app as soon as the supplement was made available. He wrote his common app essay over the summer. His sat scores were sent in early too (he requested them to be sent the last week of August). I know that they accepted weaker students from my son's high school. They heard way before his email came.

like most people in this thread i have a 1400+ and an 90+ average and i got waitlisted, but i am wondering, using the method of deleting some letters in the link, did anyone get any response besides a waitlist? maybe some of those letters we deleted were indicators to give another response. who knows but if everysingle person who deleted some letters got the same response, maybe there is just a general mistake. i applied to the school of management and i find it hard to believe that at least one of us didnt get accepted. who knows though, im waiting for my letter before i truly freak out

I agree with mjf1287, there was obviously a computer glitch, what with the links not working etc. lets all just wait and see....

My son's name was on the waitlist letter, so there was no mistake. The funny part is that they state that they carefull reviewed his application.

yea mine was too, but the thing is they prob ahve 3 standard letters and just put our names into them, its not like someone wrote that specificially for me or for your son for that matter.

My son emailed them to figure out how to open the original email. They just resent the same WL letter once again, only this time you just click it on. They actually just sent it within the last few minutes, so there was definitely no mistake in my son's case. I also do not believe that his app was "carefully reviewed" at all.

this is really really wierd. and lame.

I just got another email. This time, i did not have to mess around with the url. I'm still on the waiting list.
So, unless another mistake has been made, it appears very unlikely that i will be attending syracuse this fall.

Something seems very wrong here. I can't put my finger on it. Can those who were waitlisted please post their stats?
