Email from Collegeboard regarding PSAT results?

I got an email from College Board today.

"Dear Student,

Your test scores from your PSAT/NMSQT® exam indicate that you have a likelihood for success (achieving a 3 or higher on an AP Exam) in one or more Advanced Placement® courses. We would like to understand how you choose what High School courses you have enrolled in.

Your honest feedback can help us improve the AP Program for you and other students like you. Please take 5 minutes to fill out this survey. This survey is anonymous, and your feedback is very important to us."

What does this mean? How good are my scores? And the results come in December... so how does College Board already know my results?

what?! I didn’t get that email enter panic mood.

But anyway if this email is real all it means is that you scored over a certain school (prob little over than average) and were randomly selected to take such survey

Oh well, I guess it’s a good thing.

Collegeboard probably sends that email to every student who indicated their email address and scored higher than a marked cutoff score, maybe 180 or 200. I don’t remember if I got that so I can’t tell you.

Almost certainly phishing for your contact information. Don’t respond. They shouldn’t indicate your scores yet.

Oh, thanks

are you a junior?

Yeah, I’m a junior.

It’s from appotential@collegeboard.com so I can’t say it’s spam. Also, in the survey, they didn’t ask for any contact info, name, etc.

It is very likely that you fit a demographic that they feel is underrepresented in the set of students who take AP exams. Some criteria they may have considered:

(1): A score in a certain range.
(2): A specific ethnic identity.
(3): A set level of income.
(4): People who report high GPAs.
(5): Students satisfying some of the above criteria whose name does not appear in the database associated with any AP tests.

I did not receive such an email so, unless this is a new email as of this year or the last, it cannot be just 1 and/or 4.

I’m pretty confident that it isn’t 2, i’m Indian(Asian)
As you said it’s not 1 or 4. I haven’t taken an AP test yet, so that could be a possibility. And I didn’t specify an income so that wouldn’t be it either.

I think it’s score. I got one too, just now, and I’m fairly certain I did well on the PSAT.

I’m Hispanic (so it’s not race), 3.91 UW GPA, never taken any AP tests. Last year (sophomore year) I got 195 (yikes) and no email.

This year I got ~230 by my estimate, and received an email. I bet it’s a score cutoff. No factors changed for me besides score (I practiced a TON) and age.

Yeah I think you’re right. I don’t know my gap yet because I changed high schools this year.
I didn’t get an email last year, I did pretty bad(180), but I definitely practiced a ton and I think I did pretty well this year.

I’m pretty sure it is a new thing this year. And hopefully it is just a random thing for people who scored so high.

The email is new this year, but last year they sent out letters to your counselors. I had a 182 or 186 (I know, awful, no studying and I forgot to do the grid-ins) and they said I was qualified to take every AP course there is (except art). Haha, I saw the AP Calc courses and just about died laughing, I’m so bad at math…=P

Oh okay. Well i’m in a bunch of APs this year haha. Thanks.

yeah, it’s probably for noobs (just kidding ;D) who have never taken AP exams. I’m a junior and i received no such email. I’m 100% sure i scored within the 234-240 range, but i’ve also already taken 4 ap exams.

OP, congrats on what is likely a high PSAT score!

On the other hand, should we be concerned if we haven’t received such an email?

I’m with Laurier… should we give this merit as to score predictions???

If so, then I’d like to sit back comfortably until December (moment of truth).

Yeah let’s just wait for December. I don’t think this email is of much importance.
