my d rec'd an email today from the dean of LAS stating that admissions had shared parts of my d's strong application with her and went on to commend her for her accomplishments thus far. The dean also offered assistance in helping my d learn more about what lehigh has to offer.

any significance to this email or do you think most applicants have rec'd it???

I got the same thing last year and I think it’s a very good sign. Ask about the Eckardt Scholars program. Your daughter is probably being considered for it.

Are you an Eckhardt Scholar? If so, what has your experience been like thus far? I looked at the website–I see there is a merit scholarship for the Eckhardt Scholars, but I don’t see an amount.

Do you have any info on the amount of the Eckhardt Scholar award (or how many freshman get it). Were you also considered for the President’s Award (which says it is for half or full tuition)?

There is no Eckardt Scholar award though I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone in the Eckardt program has merit aid.
The Eckardt program experience has been great so far. The first semester of freshman year we a take a sort of Great Books course mixed with a few newer books. To give a sample, we read parts of Nicomachean Ethics and Paradise Lost along with The Odyssey, Outliers, My Life as a Quant, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The professor is amazing; I was never bored in the three hour class once a week. The class is all discussion with three papers over the entire semester. I liked the class so much I’m taking another class with the same professor this semester. The program doesn’t pick up again until junior year when we take another course and start our thesis.
There are some other perks. If needed, they waive the distribution requirements. There are free Broadway trips every year. We get advising for fellowships.
