Can anyone tell me more about this before I commit to anything?

It's an information session. It doesn't commit you to anything, and gives you a chance to ask questions of an MIT representative. I went to a large public information session last fall in my town, and that was very informative. I recommend MIT information sessions to anyone who might possibly consider applying to MIT.

It's very useful. I went to one both my sophomore year and junior year. Everyone's invited (quite literally; bring friends if you think they're interested in MIT) [Ben, correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I did and there wasn't a problem, heh].

Basically, you get a presentation/infosession on MIT, and then there's a decently long Q+A session where you get to ask admissions officers questions. If I recall correctly, they also had some ECs there (YOUR potential interviewers :p).

And you get free cookies and soda! What's not to like? :p

We show some video & pictures and go a bit more in depth into certain topics than we do in the on-campus info sessions. Otherwise there's a lot of overlap.

As Mike says, you're free to bring friends, but please include them in the "number of people attending" when you RSVP (and please RSVP!). We need to get as accurate a head count as possible, in case we need to expand seating, etc.
