email from the 'intended major' department professor

I received an email from a physics professor explaining about JHU physics and asking me to explore its website etc. Anything special about this or am I too anxious?

I got one after I was admitted as well. It’s just how they welcome you to your department.

If you were ED, seeJHUNoah’s post above. If you’re an RD applicant, see the second part of [this post](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1710898-post13.html)

^RD here. Thanks! Might sound silly but I kinda think this is better than nothing. XD

The physics department is small in terms of undergraduate student numbers and I believe the department takes an interest in applicants who intend to major in physics. I read elsewhere that they actually look over the applications and provide some feedback to admissions. Although the party line is that your major makes no difference to admissions, for the reasons noted above, I think it can be helpful to declare an interest in physics.

The e-mails that were sent out a few weeks ago from the Physics Department was just an informational message. The Physics Department is one of more active academic departments in reaching out with prospective students and enjoy communicating with interested students. The message was sent to all applicants who listed Physics as their first choice major – it means nothing about whether one will be admitted or not.

And yes the Physics Department is one of the departments who reviews their admitted students but they do not make decisions on files. As I have stated numerous times before, since applicants to Hopkins do not apply to a specific major (BME is the exception) we are not admitting students to majors. It is only “helpful to delcare an interest in physics” when one has a sincere interest in physics.

Welcome back AdmissionsDaniel!!!

My son is a freshman happily ensconced in the PUC lab, writing equations on the whiteboards. And yes, he did and does have a sincere interest in physics.

Thanks! Glad to hear your son is enjoying his time at Hopkins. Did your son get to attend the very cool Foreign Affairs Symposium event yesterday - live talk by an NASA astronaut currently on the International Space Station?

I wish I had the chance to attend but I got applications to review.

My D listed Physics as her first choice and didn’t get an email. Should she worry? Did this email go out to all applicants interested in physics?

Seriously?? That’s ridiculously awesome!
