Email from UC today

I had 1 year gap in between graduating high school and starting college. I didn’t get a chance to explain this in detail on my app, just briefly mentioned it in the little space when you fill out your coursework. So UC admissions just sent me an email asking to me to explain this. I’m pretty sure they could just be doing this automatically with anyone who has a gap to make sure they didn’t go to college anywhere else. But at the same time I feel like they wouldn’t ask me unless they were interested. The email said that they’re in process of making a decision and thus need an explanation for them to make their final decision. So I’m wondering this email is good, bad, neutral?

In my opinion, this email could be a tiebreaker. Like, it could make the deal or ruin the deal.

They always re-ask if there’s a gap even if you already explained it. I’ve never heard it written that way — they’re in the process of deciding and need to know for final decision. Usually they just ask. Still, it’s pretty standard.

@myfavoritepet what makes you think that? I think that might be overstating a bit, but maybe you’re right. Cuz the thing is, I barely explained it in my app. And for my employment history, I only listed the job I started once I started CC. So I think they’re checking to see if I went to another school

@Ohm888 yeah their exact words were that they’re in the process of reviewing my app but need this explanation to complete the review and make a decision. I’m thinking they might be worried that I went to another school and never mentioned it in on my app, as my gap was actually 1.5 years which might look odd from their POV. Which In that case, it’d prob be a deal breaker.
The thing that I’ve been trying to figure out is which school(s) it could be. Although the link directs me to a standard University of California message center, at the bottom of the page it says :
“In case of technical difficulties using this page, please email adm-uc-review@ad3.ucdavis.edu.”
So I’m thinkin it’s UCD? Idk I wouldn’t say I’m exactly borderline for Davis, my gpa is well above 75th percentile for my major

@myfavoritepet nvm forget what I said I could see now where you got that based on my post. I don’t think it’s a tiebreaker but I think they’re concerned whether I went to another school or not. So yes, technically my response can make or break me cuz if I went to another school and I never mentioned it, I could be screwed. Good think that isn’t the case lol

Oh ok, now that you put the exact words in, it sounds standard. They’re not saying the gap explanation determines the final decision. It’s just a thing they need to check off the list. They always re-ask about gaps. Waiting a year to go to college is not anything they ultimately care about. You weren’t ready, you were working, etc…

They asked me about this too.
I think they are just asking to ask. No suspicion at all. Go ahead and answer them promptly.
Don’t worry too much.

@spookybear When you clicked on the personalized link to the message center, did you a ucdavis email at the bottom? “where it says if you have technical difficulties please contact:”
Yeah I think they’re just double-checking so that they have all the info the need. I’ve heard of multiple instances in the past where they accepted someone but the student didn’t provide them with all the colleges they went to, and thus got rescinded.

@ericbadmon Didn’t get one from UCD. Didn’t apply there!
But don’t worry. Also yes. You have to provide the school with all the info such as all the colleges you’ve went to or you are lying to them. Thus getting kicked out is in order.
