Email from UCSB

I got it this morning too... the wait is almost over.

About the TAG process for some UCs, I talked to my counselor (who's also the TAP advisor for UCLA, so I'm pretty sure he's not bs) about TAG for UCSB and he said that they changed the requirements this year. No more signing papers or anything, just keep a 3.0 GPA and finish IGETC. I do remember that there was an option on the UC application to indicate if you're eligible for TAG for any of the UCs. I didn't check it, but maybe someone else can clarify.

my counselor said as well, that there were no papers needed for this year. BUT i did sign a paper at my school, saying i did complete IGETC with 3.0+ for my school's records. And for the UC apps, i did check the boxes.

I checked the boxes on the application as well. Sorry to hear you didn't get the letter, but I don't think that means too much. Let's cross our fingers until Monday!

am i going to to be screwed if I didn't just check the box?

^probably not. They may assume that you did a tag with another UC campus in paper though. Technically that's what is supposed to happen, but people have been filling out a tag with another school and checking the box to try and get a tag for 2 schools that way....we'll know soon enough though

Dont worry jackinthebox0710. Although I did get the email, I dont think that puts me at any advantage over you or anybody else who did not receive one. Its only an email saying when they begin posting admission decisions and nothing more.

yup i got the email this morning. I'm SO psyched to find out on monday!! I really wouldn't mind going to sb because it's such a laid back place. did I mention that the beach is literally RIGHT THERE?! agg!!

I hear you fresh! Ive been to UCSB twice and its a beautiful campus, very friendly people, and incredibly laid back! I dont think we will necessarily find out monday just because we got the email. Do you think most of the people who got the email will?

i went to ucsb for holloween. man, it wasnt a good impression. that place was sooo filthy. If i do get in though, i will make sure to go up there again and check it out on more accommodating, scholarly terms

In all fairness, dont judge UCSB based on what it looks like on halloween weekend. Everyone knows thats the craziest weekend and areas get trashed because of all the left over alcohol and trash being littered by morons.

yeah seriously. I was up there for Halloween, and from what I remember (which is quite honestly, not much AT ALL ;)) everything was pretty trashed. But it's obvious why....Halloween is nuts up there.

i applied to SB solely for my halloween experience. pretty dope

I applied so that I won't have to find parking/a place to stay this year. haha, jk.

hah, i took a morning bike ride the day after halloween last year, and EVERY car parked on DP had at least one of its mirrors knocked off.

and yeah... halloween weekend is not an accurate indication of what to expect in SB.

after having lived in IV for a year, i'm going to copy and paste my thoughts from another thread:

here's what i've got to say about UCSB: isla vista is a few square miles of million dollar beach front property that inhabits 24,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24. the campus is pretty, the beaches are packed with beautiful girls and decent surf, the weekends are long, student organizations put on some really cool events and you can play music as loud as you want, pretty much as late as you want, and no one will complain. there's a catch, though.. you've got to have the discipline to put aside as much time to study as you need, and odds are, 4 nights a week, you won't be able to do any of it at home - i set up a little office in my garage, fully equipped with an ash tray and space heater.. that worked for a while, but if you're not afforded that luxury, there's a great 7 floor library where you can be social and studious, and (my saving grace) the 24 hour study room is fantastic, and honestly not THAT full around finals/midterms.
if you've got a little extra cash for food, there's a great coop that sells some of the best produce i've ever had. there's also a farmer's market downtown once a week. if you like mexican, you'll be drawn to supercucas at least twice a week. if you don't like mexican, you will after your stay at UCSB.
i think the greatest thing about UCSB, aside from the plethora of beautiful women, is the location. it's overwhelmingly gorgeous in every way.. oh, and there's a free recycling service. you can imagine how many beer cans and bottles are left over after a friday or saturday night... toss them anywhere, in a corner if you want to be nice, and they're gone by sunrise.

I'm hoping I can go to UCSB. crosses fingers

Unless I fall completely in love with the UCSB campus and get rejected at the other schools I applied to, I'm probably not going to go to UCSB if I get accepted there. Not sure if I'd mesh very well with the kids there, haha.

I do love their reputation of being a party-hard, study-hard school, though. I think I read an article about UCSB being one of the happiest campuses in the US. No wonder!

According to our emails, tomorrow (or today) is the big moment for many of us.

I got the email so I hope I get a response tomorrow. Major turning point in my life, and if I don't get in I will have a lot of tough decisions ahead of me. UCSB is pretty much my only chance and only choice.

the site is in maintaining right now, go get a life @_@

Yeah I got the message too, but does anyone know what a perm number is??? The e-mail said that you need a perm number to check you application status.
