Email issues?

So i made my email, and im not liking how its ridiculously hard to use.

One issue im having is that whenever i click on my inbox or my spam (which each have an unread message), it just says "There is no message selected". how do i fix this and check my messages rofl -___-

and for however stupid i might sound with that question, sorry lol

You made your Harvard email account?

Just set it to forward to a gmail account, and set up your gmail account to let you “Send as” your Harvard email address.

Harvard webmail is terrible.

oo i really really want to do that, but i cant figure out how. on gmail it has the option to forward my gmail to other ones, and then on harvard it has the option to receive from other addresses, but not what im looking for

ok i figured out how to forward it to my gmail, but how do i have it so that if i reply using my gmail, the sender is my harvard email?

I assume that the acceptance notification must be received before one is capable of setting up the email, correct?

Also, has anyone been able to accept the offer of admission online? The site doesn’t seem to be fit for admission confirmations so I simply sent in the snail mail reply.

On gmail:

Settings –> “Accounts and Import” –> “Send Mail from another address”

omg thanks a lot just forget me. this will come in handy omg -___-

is there anyway i can fix the issue on my normal webmail though? i would like to access my email if i wanted to

and yeah mifune, you have to wait until your acceptance is processed. i accepted online on 4/1 and i was able to make my email on thursday

Okay, thanks. Did you use the web address [url=http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/admitted/login.cgi]http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/admitted/login.cgi[/url</a>] to confirm your attendance or another site?

i used that one. it worked fine when i tried it, so im not aware of any problems you might be having :(

Does it provide you with this message (if you click on the hyperlink above)?

“The Admitted Students Website is accessible only to students admitted to the Class of 2013.”

uh, click on the faq above it, and then click back on admitted students, and then you can login. its weird lol

Oh, thanks a lot! It works.

yeah no problem, so can anyone help with my “There is no message selected.” issue?

Is your e-mail at fas.harvard.edu or at college.harvard.edu?

I got both, but for people with longer names, @fas effectively butchers your name because it has a maximum number of letters. And yeah, the webmail sucks, so I just redirected it to another address.

I only got the college.harvard.edu one. And yes, I’m forwarding my mail to my gmail account and I’ve set up my gmail account to send mail through Harvard’s SMTP servers (a new feature, I think, which is pretty nice).

How did you get the fas.harvard.edu one?

Does sending mail through Harvard’s SMTP servers make any difference? What do you get/what’s the difference?

You know when you signed up for the FAS resources thing, you had to provide a username and password? Well, I tried logging in with that into the webmail.fas.harvard.edu site and that’s your @fas account. The username is 8 characters only.

You are my new favorite person. Thanks. Sending it through Harvard’s SMTP servers I’m fairly certain makes the message authentically from Harvard’s email account, whereas otherwise it would in reality still be a message sent from your gmail account, but with the simple Reply To: and From: tags modified to reflect your Harvard email. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Haha. I changed it so that it works from the SMTP servers. Harvard keeps saying that all students can only use their @college address, but @fas works perfectly, including receiving and sending mail.

The bad thing about redirecting is that if you send mail through the Harvard account indirectly, the mail isn’t saved to the College sent folder. I’d have liked to have a separate copy of Harvard-related sent mail. Oh well, its a trade-off for user-friendliness.

Technically, you can join the FB Harvard '14 now that you have your email. Have you done it yet? I’m just too lazy :)

Haha, I’ve actually been part of the Harvard network since last year. Went to summer school there. Feel free to add me up, by the way. Facebook
