Montegut: did you get the email or did your son?

Rob, my son got it to his mybama account. We have it set up to forward to his regular email. It did not come to me. Have your child check their crimson email account.

Another question:

If you put yourself in a room that already has people in it, will you be able to see who those people are before or not until after you put yourself in?

Thanks Montegut!

Really dumb question that I think I know the answer to but I’ll ask anyway: when D goes to select her room tonight, will the only rooms that show up be either the completely empty ones or the ones that only have other girls in them? I know you can’t see who the other people are until you put your info in and I assume that UA does some type of gender filter.

Obviously, not enough caffeine yet :)

Under the UA housing website, there’s a drop down menu with a choice called freshman room selection guide. One gives detailed instruction with sample screens taking you through step by step. A good “tutorial” to do before tonight.

I just did that! I had seen it before but figured I’d take a second look since I’ll be pulling in the driveway at about 6:55pm tonight ;)

RobD, the only suites (or rooms in those suites) that will appear are the ones that are empty. There is a gender filter, so your daughter does not have to worry that she selected a suite with three other guys. However, that said, I teach some high school girls who tell me that they wish they could room with guys – less drama.

I noticed on the tutorial that you can actually choose the room in the suite. How do you know on the layout of the suite which room is A,B,C, or D?? I’ve seen the room layouts but the rooms are not labeled??

My son’s e-mail states the following incorrect info:

“Should you wish to participate in one of the living-learning communities listed above, your assigned login time for March 23rd is listed at the top of this email. Please remember, the login times shown above are Central Standard Time.”

In fact, the times are Central Daylight Time, which makes a significant difference to the few of us in states and territories that do not observe daylight savings time: Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

bamafana–

I called the housing office and they said A, B, C, D corresponds to rooms 1, 2, 3, 4 in the layouts that can be found by clicking the links at [Housing & Residential Communities - The University of Alabama](http://housing.ua.edu/hallslist.cfm)

Some of the layouts list the rooms A-D, others 1-4. Don’t ask me why, but that’s the drill.

Momreads: Is my D in your class ;)? She has a handful of close girl friends but most of her buddies are guys 'cause of the drama factor…

In the Lakeside/ Riverside style of housing (where all the rooms are in one line)…the rooms are: A (next to living room), B, C, and then D is the last one in the back.

For Ridgecrest South…I believe they are…A (far left of living room), then B, (then living room)…then C is right side of living room, then D (far right of living room). Of course, if your suite’s layout is a mirror image, the numbering maybe reversed, but rooms B & C should flank the living room.

Others can correct me if I’m wrong…

Try these links to see the layouts:

Lakeside, Ridgecrest West/East, Riverside (not quite in a straight line): http://housing.ua.edu/images/Photo-floorplan-7-29-04.jpg

Hope this helps.

Malania, thanks for the links to the layouts, and the room designation tips.

Very helpful.

Did talk to housing also just now. Gosh, they are so nice.

Can only do room stuff when the system is open, which is tonight, then Thursday. Nothing can be done on Wednesday.

Then the system opens up again in April for the nonliving learning, but we can still go in and try to add roommates if there’s still space at that point.

You’re welcome, Montegut. FWIW, to those of you interested in Ridgecrest South, the UA website says: “Laundry facilities will be located on the 2nd and 4th floors.” Don’t know if that matters, but if it does, there it is :)

^^^

True…and the full kitchens are on the other floors.

The same is for the honors dorms.

The laundry facilities on the 4th floor tend to be the least used.

(I don’t know why that floorplan above says 1, 2, 3, 4. I’m pretty sure that they use A, B, C, D…unless I’ve forgotten.)

Aha, so laundry on 2 & 4, kitchens on 1, 3 & 5? Are the laundries & kitchens on the same space on the individual floors?

Was anyone able to get a room in Ridgecrest South, North Tower? D logged in right at 7pm and there were no spaces available on any floor in any room. She ended up picking a room in Ridgecrest West, but we’re wondering if there was a glitch or if all the sophomore-senior honors students hopped on over there for next year ;)

RobD: If your daughter stays in Ridgecrest West, she’ll run into my son and all of his friends. That’s where they moved for their sophomore year.

Yay! DS got pulled into a room in Ridgecrest West, courtesy of whitesox24! This is starting to feel real :)
