I was thinking that it would be more fun/exciting to receive my regular decision notification letter in the mail instead of an email online. just wondering if anyone else thinks its a good idea and if anyone who has gone through the process thinks it is better this way.
It is nice to receive a letter in the mail, but it will cost colleges a lot of money and time to send a letter to all applicants informing them of their decision.
Sending it by email is faster and free.
I think most schools send accepted students letters anyway after the email notification.
They used to all be that way. It was agonizing on CC when people close to the college would hear, and everyone farther away waited days for their snail mail. This is more equitable.
I guess my questionis “is opening the physical letter better than opening an email even with the longer waiting?”
My D2 got both, it was a few years ago when a few colleges were still doing letters. The online ones were usually an email telling her to check her portal. One school had a pretty great exploding sort of congratulations message on the portal if you got in. She was excited either way.
The email is pretty cool. My friends have said that some schools have cool music that plays when you open up your portal.
The UPitt acceptance video my friend received was the most cringeworthy thing I’ve ever seen but funny.
i think email is better. i have a daughter who seems ready to have a heart attack for no reason as it is. Having her excitedly try to open physical mail to see whats inside will probably necessitate someone standing by with smelling salts.
Email is more eco-friendly. When I got accepted, I got an email to check my portal and then there was this weird fireworks and then it said You’re in! It was interesting to me compared to a mail. I like that they shifted to email because it’s high time they stopped wasting so much paper.
