Has anyone else received email from the FAFSA website showing a correction update that was actually not made?
I received such an update for both my kids today, but, I have not updated anything, and, in chat with FAFSA help they show no updates.

I have had the same thing happen and it’s usually one of the colleges going in and making a change.
Have your kids check their email to see if one of the colleges that received the FAFSA made a correction.
Sign into the FAFSA and look up history of all corrections made and compare the SARs to see if they are different.
If that is indeed the case, you didn’t complete FAFSA the correct way. The student needs to have a unique FAFSA ID in order to log in, review and electronically sign the form.
The likeliest explanation for what happened is that one of the colleges that received the FAFSA made a change, and you just haven’t figured out yet what it is. As mommdc says, obtain the current (post-corrected email) SAR and compare it to the SAR that was produced when the FAFSA was first submitted.
Oh for heaven’s she. Do,you want us to agree that the FAFSA site was hacked? Mistakes happen. Data entry errors happen.
Guess the OP means he created. FAFSA ID for his kids and hasn’t told them.
@JmikeY ypu do realize that the FAFSA is very clear that the FAFSA ID information really belongs to your kid. Do,you also plan to sign master promissory notes in your kid’s name without letting the kid log in himself?
The most likely explanation is that a school made a small correction to your FAFSA. This happens all the time.
But really…I seriously doubt that the FAFSA website was hacked…because if it was…this site would be FULL of posts about it.
And yes…sometimes the FAA site has glitches…just like any other website.
My D’s college requires the CSS PROFILE which is due after the FAFSA. Last year, they used actual tax data from our CSS PROFILE submission to update our D’s FAFSA before we could use the IRS tool to transfer actual numbers from our filed tax return to her FAFSA to update our estimated tax data. After this happened, we were notified of a FAFSA correction. I called the Financial Aid office and they confirmed they were the ones that made the update on our behalf.
