Email to wait listed students

wow congratulations. to think , a few hours ago some of you were brooding over this site. time is an amazing thing.

:D thanks naynay and Anna!

"to think , a few hours ago some of you were brooding over this site."
that's a really good point. it really does go to show that you should really never give up hope on something.
good luck with everything. before I was taken off the waitlist I was actually going to be at Oxford too, but now that's going to change. I'm still really excited! :)

I emailed Emory, asking, among other questions, whether they have re-read my application yet.

They said that they have admitted a small number of students from the wait-list but are still "crunching deposit numbers".

Reading between the lines, it doesn't look good. There is simply no way that they are still crunching the May 1 deposits. So the deposits that they are crunching must be the deposits of the wait-list admits. Thus, if you still have not been admitted from the wait-list, like me, it means that you were at least passed up for the first round, and maybe even the second round as well.

It means that Emory has a very, very low opinion of you. You have essentially been wait-listed for the second or even the third time and you chances don't look good at all. :(

I'm sorry, evilcake; I know you probably don't want to hear this from me, but I
really do know how it feels to see others around you getting good news about colleges while you are left to wait. I had the same situation not only with this waitlist, but with my first EDI rejection where a friend of mine, who also applied EDI, was accepted.

you're happy for them, yet you also can't help but be jealous and, as a result, you begin to think more negatively. up until a few hours ago I viewed my chances of getting off the Emory waitlist as all but gone, but, low and behold, good news actually came. my advice is to hold out because you can never really know what is in store for you. I also recommend e-mailing your district representative and giving them an update on your high school activities.

best of luck :)

Yes, I did give them an update. And as for hope, it doesn't really matter now, does it? No matter how optimistic or not, it will not influence the results. I don't really know what you mean by holding out, I'm not going to get off the wait-list, if that is what you meant, especially since that will take extra effort on my part! I'm just moving on with my plans, that's all. I'm not being negative, just pragmatic/realistic.

Don't assume you're not going to get off the wait list, but I agree with you... I think it is good to be realistic now. The number of people who get off the wait list are always slim. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but I think it's time we get comfortable with where we've sent our deposits. Honestly, I used to come home everyday and religious check my emails and missed calls, and get stomach plunges whenever I saw that nothing has been sent, but now I'll check my email every once in a while and I don't care that Emory hasn't sent me anything. While I spent about three weeks spazzing and sending Emory portfolios and extra recs, it's completely out of my hands now.

And while I used to hate having people say this to me, college is what you make of it! I also suffered from jealousy when my friends all got into their top choices, and believe me I was bitter, but I've sort of let it ride out. I've ended up picking my safety school, but I'm not down in a funk about it. I have my moments, still, but I'm getting used the idea of going to UGA pretty quickly.

julienf,
congrats!
i told ya to keep up the hope, right?
YAY!

So, has anyone else heard from Emory? Or is the wait-list done?

I called yesterday and the lady at Emory said that the process is still going on and we will be notified when it is over. I just got an email about Oxford College, but I'm not into that. :(

Lol, when I saw that we got the email about Oxford College in school my friends and I immediately started making jokes. (not about Oxford, but about how Emory is clearly wrapping up the wait list)

Hey do u guys have any opinions between Emory and Washu? I have been hearing mixed reviews about both

@ collegeboy....it depends on what you are in for. Emory has a really STRONG business program, while both Emory and WashU have a strong premed track. I believe that Emory has more opportunities than WashU b/c it is in the city. It all depends.

Just to put it out there. I am waitlisted from WashU. It was my first choice. Now that I am doing more research on Emory, the more I am falling in love with it. Whatever it is, just let it flow, both are great choices. Best of Luck!

it totally depends on what kind of environment you want to live in. both universities offer excellent education so it's up to your personal preference. and plus depends on what major u r thinking of pursuing.

def business so i know emory has the better business program.

if tuition fee is not a problem for you, go for emory

I just finished my freshman year at Emory and I was let in off the extended wait list. I would suggest staying on the extended waiting list if you really want to go to Emory because I did not get in until the middle of summer last year and I am so glad that I go to school there!

I just got in today, but I am strangely not excited. I used to obsess over getting in, but now that I have, I don't know if I want to go anymore. But anyways, I'll have to wait for my finaid package to come in before I make a decision.

well, its reassuring that someone got in after all the hub-bub and then brutal silence.
although i'm still bent on oxford; if emoryC gave me a shot, i think i'd take it.

Mostly because I'm curious- has the Emory wait list activity ended or not?

I got the formal letter from Emory- wait list activity is DONE.
