We're excited that you have applied for Fall 2011 admission to the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego! As a top applicant to the university, we know you'd like to know a little more about our school.......

My son received that email, in 2006. He was (subsequently) accepted to UCSD. I think you are in. ( I say that from the perspective that my son received that email, and he was accepted. He ended up attending a different University than UCSD, but he was accepted). Congrats to all of you.

Please note that receipt of this email does not constitute or guarantee admission to UCSD or the Jacobs School… “Please note that receipt of this email does not constitute or guarantee admission to UCSD or the Jacobs School”

S clicked on the link that said, “For more information” and it said that his e-mail was obtained by being in the top 2000 applicants. Not sure if that means for the whole school or just the college of engineering.

Did anyone receive this e-mail that did NOT apply to the college of engineering?

Applied to engineering: UC GPA 4.2, ACT 32, lots of EC. I’m also wondering if we are “top 2000 applicants” for the univerisity or school of engineering? If it is the university , this will bode well for us.

i applied to UCSD under EE last year, and got that letter from Jacobs School of Eng as well. and i got in later when i checked my status online on march 15th. i think theres probably a high change that u will get in, mainly from my experience and from everyone else that got the letter (if ur major isnt impacted, ie. not mechE or bioE). but even if u applied for an impacted major, u still will most likely get in

^^ 33dmjjm, did you check the link “for more information” It definitely said top 2000 applicants. I am sure that just means to the school of engineering. From the 2009 data 7,421 people applied to engineering and 3,216 were accepted. If we assume the numbers are somewhat consistent, that is good news. For those who didn’t get the e-mail, seems to be plenty of room for more!

Those emails were sent out to the top 2000 applicants, which is, I would assume, less than the number of students UCSD accepts into engineering. I’m guessing the receipt of these emails is a sign that you will be accepted.

I received that email. My guess is that all who received that email will be admitted because the email was to the top 2000 applicants, and UCSD will accept more than 2000 applicants into the engineering school.

5/6 people I know who applied to engineering from my school received the same email but got rejected later on, including me. From what I’ve seen, this is NOT a likely letter so for future applicants, do not get your hopes up.
