how does the email addy for wustl works? first name_lastname@wustl.edu? or is it different?

Chances from department to department. :(

for undergrad?

Even in undergrad, it's completely different from department to department. I've never understood it myself.

you can set your own university email (blahblah@wustl.edu), and everyone has a school email (lastnamepartoffirstname@school.wustl.edu)

not all of the school emails follow that rule though - engineering for example uses initials, sometimes 2, sometimes 3, and a number

yes, but if someone sends you an email using your given userid (initials+lastname)@wustl.edu, and drop the department notification (artsci, gwb, etc.), you will still receive the mail.

right - as long as they know your id... because you can format it in all sorts of different ways when you choose it
