I applied regular decision to my top school, Marist College. The school is just a little bit of a reach for me. I have a 3.6 average, and a 27 on my ACT. I visited the school back in November and spoke with one of the counselors, and she gave me her card with her e-mail address. Now that my application is in process would it be a good idea to e-mail the counselor I spoke with letting her know that Marist is my top school? If so, what should I say in the e-mail. I'm trying to think of other ways I can stand out when they're going through my application, because there's so many students from my school that applied there.

This is a very busy time of year for them, so if you write, make sure it is worth their while. For example, mention any new awards or honors that you may have received since applying, or if new SAT or ACT scores came that are better than what you already had, mention it, or if you recently won the downhill ski slalom competition for your league. Somewhere in there, you can tell them how lucky you would be if you were accepted to Marist. In the meantime, keep your mind open on the other colleges right up until you make your final commitment.

There’s nothing new that I have done since I handed in my application. Would you still advise me to e-mail her or no?

I don’t think it could hurt you. It might not get read or might be forgotten but I just don’t see an admission’s officer holding it against you.
