My DD has received a couple emails this week from a couple schools she applied to. They’ve been from
an academic department, sharing more about their individual program. She did hear from department/special interest personnel after the interviews from a few schools (ex: interviewer shared with the ________ coach or instructor that this interviewee was interested in their area, etc. so they sent an email. These emails appear to be one sent to others too, of course, but I wondered if this meant anything at all. Obviously, they would’ve needed to review her file to notice the skills/awards in this area. Not trying to pull straws but I just thought it seems unusual to make contact after the application deadline but before decisions. Any insight/thoughts?
It means they know she has applied. I would not read anything else into this at all.
Read nothing into it. Schools are still reading applications. If a school admits you, they will want to yield you. This is their first opportunity to set that up, whether they admit you or not.
This is a good chance to get to know the schools – and what you want from your experience – a little better before you need to make a decision.
I think some schools are just slower on sending out their marketing material. I’m getting them too from a few schools.
There are a lot of different reasons for this timing and I wouldn’t read anything into it. One of the big ones is that now the schools know which students have actually applied so their pool of prospects has been narrowed down a lot.
For members of the ten schools org they actually have an agreement limiting contact with admitted applicants between March 10-April 10. It’s supposed to be minimal and all done through the admissions department. Coaches and specific departments or programs are NOT supposed to initiate contact with admitted students during that period, so this is their chance to do it. Then they’re free to continue answering questions during that quiet period as long as it’s initiated by the prospective student or parents.
Hi!
Does this also happen bw the deadline and M10?
No, the ten schools agreement is just about March 10 - April 10. There’s no restrictions on communications now (after the app deadline but before Mar 10) which is why it makes sense for those schools to be sending these emails out now as the OP described.
Were these schools from the tsao, only if you’re comfortable sharing?
I’ve gotten post-application emails showcasing the school from both Emma Willard and NMH. EW has a newly hired Director of Enrollment Management so things may change there after 2022.
If a school has a person whose function is enrollment management, I suspect there will be more of these marketing initiatives, not fewer, going all the way up to A10.
Yes, they were.
We also received hand written postcards in the mail from AO and a teacher/coach from one of the schools my daughter applied to.
Some schools have a quiet period for coaches between Feb 10th & March 10th. We have received several emails recently from coaches explaining that once Feb 10th hits, they cannot contact students, but students are welcome and encouraged to contact them with any updates or questions.
To op: read nothing into emails.
I am going to read nothing into our current silence. We had a flurry of activity after interviews, but now very quiet. Only got 2 personalized Christmas cards out of 7 schools (actually 3, but 2 were from different people at the same school), so trying not to get psyched out reading what others are getting in the mail.
Do international students also get these post interview cards and other things through physical mail?
Like I received the prospectus booklet almost like a month is after I signed up on mailing list. ( This really helped my parents )
But I’ve noticed one thing, that all the admission offices, they are very very professional & also very helpful & supportive.
I am also applying to a few of the top 10 boarding schools in India, but like they don’t ever reply to emails, or infact have any of these sort of intricate info sessions or anything at all .
It’s good that the former schools however value the community that they’re trying to cultivate!
I was also wondering if they send out accepted International students’ admissions letter through physical mail like a weekish before so it reaches on M10?
They do not
