Theoretically, if I got an emancipation from my parents, could I qualify for financial aid? I would not qualify for financial aid otherwise. If i emancipated myself, I would only have income from myself supporting me and would qualify for a full ride. I am well aware of the benefits I forfeit when I emancipate myself, including loss of health insurance and court process. This process seems too good to be true and is not breaking any laws and I am wondering if anyone could answer if I could get a full ride because of it.

If you have good reason for emancipation, such as abuse, abandonment issues, that’s one thing. Emancipation solely to get college financial aid is not likely to be accepted, when it comes to a lot of the schools; the most generous one, I might add. Each case is scrutinized. Those schools that use PROFILE are vigilant in looking at these cases.

Are you truly living on your own, estranged from your parents, making do on money you are earning/ Or are you taking a lump sum from your parents and living off it to show "independence? Do you have a court ordered emancipation or becoming a ward of the state?

Indeed, you can’t emancipate yourself. You have to go to court and persuade a judge that there’s a good reason why the state should legally separate you from your parents and terminate their parental rights and obligations.
