Hello. I’m a student attending Embry-Riddle with a Aerospace Engineering major. When I was applying for colleges in my senior year at high school, University of Michigan was my first choice, and Embry-Riddle was the second. I got denied after a deferral from University of Michigan and got accepted into Embry-Riddle with a $10000 scholarship per year. I’m enjoying the studies and getting enriching experiences at Embry-Riddle. However, I’m somewhat strongly tempted to attempt transferring to University of Michigan after I finish my second year with all the transfer requirements met. On the other hand, I can’t find any good comparison of aerospace engineering program at the two schools. Could anyone please compare the aerospace engineering program at Embry-Riddle and U Mich and explain which school has better AE program??? Thanks a ton!
I currently attend the University of Michigan and am in the College of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering). Michigan has the #3 ranked Aero program, but perhaps more than that what separates Michigan Engineering from most other schools and what in my opinion makes Michigan the best all around Engineering university in the world is the access you get at Michigan. To alumni, to companies, to research opportunities. You can leverage the size of the university as well as the reputation of its graduates in a way unlike most other universities. I think that is what separates the two. Michigan Engineers has a reputation based upon those who proceeded us, there is an expectation of excellence because people know how hard it is here. Companies know that to graduate from Michigan Engineering means you wake up every day ready to take on a challenge with the expectation of overcoming it. Grace under pressure and grit are two very bankable skills and to graduate from Michigan everyone knows you have to have those in spades. I have a good number of Aero friends who will tell you the same. Doesn’t hurt that being a Michigan Engineer is a terrific in when it comes to securing an internship. I know freshman interning at GE, Lockheed, Rockwell, Microsoft, and others. Come and join the leaders and best…it’s expensive but well worth it. Although, Embry-Riddle is a good school in its own right for Aero.
