Emergency need help St. Louis area

My S had an accident this morning and my H is flying there but he won't be in St. Louis until 7; my 17 years old D is taking care of her brother and she needs to find an oral surgeon or specialized dentist in trauma as soon as possible or he will lost more teeth. Doesn anybody know about dentist or oral surgeon available today? He at WUSTL and we could contact the university yet and I'm driving now to the airport

You should contact the university and seek emergency medical care.

They should go to ER at BJC (WUSTL hospital), and I am sure he will be taken care of.

Please update us.

Dr Robert Berger is an excellent dentist in Clayton. 314 721 2113

Use him over the med school. He will be able to direct you to the best surgeons.

Thank you all so much, I'm home now, my H is flying. We couldn't contact anybody yet. My S was released form the hospital less than an hour ago but they said he needs to contact with urgency an oral surgeon becuase there is no one at the hospital until Tuesday.
I called at least 20 doctors even in IL but nobody is there because of the holiday. I will try with Dr. Berger again, I already let the message.
Is anybody knows who is on call today, please let me know, I'm trying to contact every person I can. WUSTL doesn't have an emergency list and no one is picking the phone except the police and they said there is nothing they can do know.
From bad to worse my D went to walgrens to get the medicines, and she can't pick them up because she is a minor, they is no way even calling them she can take the prescription; she is walking back (about 10 blocks) to find somebody who could help her.
I hate the moment I told my kids they could go to school away form home.
Thank you again, and sorry for my English, at this moment I forgot even my native language.

Urgent and life threatening are two different things. I know you are upset and worried, he would not have been released from the hospital if he were not going to be OK until Tues. Secondly, do you have a fax such that you can communicate signatures and other releases for RX service with drugstore?

Accidents can happen while traveling.......being away at school is not something to regret at this moment in time. Hang in there.

The RA should be able to help her get the meds--there are RAs who are 21.

Dr Berger should be in the office tomorrow at 8 am.

I keep calling but nobody answers the phones. My D’s RAs went to Six Flags with the freshmen, they will be back but the time my H is arriving to the airport. It’s like whenever things have to go wrong they do with all the extension.

Your H will be there in a few hours but your D could check with RAs on antoher floor. Any RA would be happy to help.

If you continue to need university assistance, call the college switchboard and ask to speak to the Dean on call. Ask him/her for help. That's their job.

The health service has a nurse on call 24/7; they should have the number of the emergency dentist. If they don't, you've just exposed a sad lack in their health support system.

There is no nurse 24/7 in WUSTL during Labor Day weekend, we just found out the kids are on their own, no emergency service at all. My desperation became frustration; in a city like St. Louis there is no emergency dentist available, there are no emergency surgeons other like the regular ER…we never think in these details when our kids fill the college applications.
Thanks to all for the messages.

Hope your son is okay; please keep us posted. I have a freshman son at WUSTL and I never would have thought that he'd be on his own during a medical/dental emergency. It's scary to think that a city the size of St. Louis wouldn't have an emergency dentist on call during holiday weekends. At least his sister was there to be with him.

What sort of damage did your son have to his teeth? I was in a car accident when I was ten and damaged a lot of my teeth - actually losing one of my front teeth. The dentist waited more than a year for the damaged roots to heal before he did anything at all. I ended up only losing the front tooth, which was eventually replaced with a bridge. Of course this was a long time ago, and I am sure dental technology has improved immensely. But, depending upon the nature of your son's accident, having to wait a day or so may not make any difference at all.
In any case, I hope he is OK.

Best wishes you you and your family, I hope the worst is over. It is agonizing not to be able to find the help you need, and we all feel for you. Hope things are more settled now.

I sent you a PM.

Cressmom, keep us posted. You should be able to get excellent oral surgeons there. Please get someone at Wash U to also act as your advocate for apts on Tuesday or earlier. I would call the Dean of Students office if all the RAs were out and ask for a call back re a medical need of a student.
WUSTL is a special university..you will not regret it, so sorry you are in limbo now. Glad he is otherwise intact. Let us all pray for people in limbo..yes.

Does the Dentist your son uses at home possibly have suggestions for referrals in ST. Louis? The dentist may be able to make some calls for you, esp since it is a holiday. We are certainly thinking of you at this time.

Best wishes and prayers for the OP's son and her family.
I'm trying to process the information in this thread. How can the dorms at a school remain open with no health services available? How can there be no representative of the dean of students available, as long as the dorms are open?
Can children under 18 -- as some college freshmen are -- take themselves to ER rooms?
As to holiday weekends and specialists -- what if, even here at home, we took ourselves or a child to an emergency room or 24-hour clinic and were told we needed some sort of specialist? Would there be no help in finding one for the whole holiday weekend?
What a scary thing to experience long distance. Hugs to you, cressmom.

^An older woman down the street from us fell Saturday on the sidewalk. The ER says she has a broken shoulder; she will have to wait till tomorrow ( Tuesday) to see an orthopedist.

Unfortunately, this is getting more and more common.
