Emergency - ssn

I messed up badly!! :(
I just realized I put in the wrong SSN for all my college apps and supplements. I was only one digit off, but I know this makes a BIG difference.
I haven't done FAFSA, CSS profiles yet, and I'll know to double check on all the numbers this time.
But does this affect my chances of being admitted? :( I'm so scared!!!

The number I've mistaken really looked like the wrong number I put in, but when I was at the bank with my mom (got a new banking account, yay), she showed me the actual SS card and I was going crazy by then...

I'm gathering all the admissions office phone numbers right now so I can call tomorrow once vacation is over. I'm just really scared they'd reject me cause I couldn't even put my SSN in correctly. :'(

They won’t reject you because of this … just calmly call or email admissions and document the number on you app, and provide the correct SSN number.

If you’re in a tizzy when you talk to them they make reject you because of spazziness, but you should be fine.

"I’m just really scared they’d reject me cause " … they are heartless automotons who really don’t want your application.

But since they aren’t and they actually are HAPPY that you applied, they’ll make the correction. Wouldn’t common sense dictate this?

Relax.

Don’t forget to contact the folks who have your test scores (ACT, SAT, APs, etc…) so that the right tests get linked. S had a problem with his APs where he didn’t put a ss# on his first AP exams, but did on the AP exams he took in subsequent years. Apparently the dummies at the AP testing service can’t figure out that this is the same kid (same name, address, birth date, school) so they created two separate records. It wasn’t until only half his AP scores showed up that we realized there was a problem.

Thank you, SnowflakeVT! I contacted my guidance counselor, and she told me it’s not a dealbreaker. (phew)

@M’s Mom: After I saw that I put in the wrong SSN for my commonapp and supplements, I immediately checked everything else including score reports, etc. Luckily, I put in the right SSN a year ago when I registered for the tests so they all have the correct information. It’s just the actual applications and supplements I need to fix.
However, when I went to all of the “status checker” accounts for my schools, some of them matched my score reports already. So I guess I’m lucky on this one?
Thank you so much though! I will definitely check on my AP scores now!

Yeah, they were probably able to match your score reports based on your name, address, and all that other stuff.

You definitely aren’t the first person to have done this. Between typos and thinking you’ve memorized it but then later realizing you had it wrong, people do this every year.

@RedSeven: Thank you. My sister originally had it copied down for me, and I trusted her. I memorized it and thought I had everything down. But then she copied it down wrong… It was also my fault for not asking for the actual SS card. I’ve learned my lesson.
