Emerging Scholar program

Hi all, looking through past threads here, I saw that Omama’s D is in the Emerging Scholar program. The little info I can find on the UA website refers to the living learning community and that you need to be admitted to the program before you can register to live in that community.

Can anyone shed any light on this program?
Thanks!

good question. after reading that thread i looked for info about that too and didn’t find much.

I think you have to contact Dr. Sharpe for more info…

* For additional information about this living-learning community, please contact Dr. Ann Webb at awebb@as.ua.edu or Ms. Julia Gibler at jggibler@as.ua.edu. For more information about the Emerging Scholars Program (including application information), contact Professor Shane Sharpe at ssharpe@cba.ua.edu.*

Mike, I’m glad it just wasn’t me :)

M2CK: Thanks; I tripped across that too. I want to mention the program to my D, but would like to have a little more background than that before she contacts Dr. Sharpe.

It’s very hard to find online info. I’ve looked several times.

I’ve also have tried to figure out if the Emerging Scholars are in the non-honors Ridgecrest South tower or the honors tower. anyone know?

I think that the program falls under the Honors umbrella so I would assume that it’s in the honors tower…but I don’t know any more than that blurb!

Emerging Scholars

I hope this helps a bit!

DD is currently in the program. Dr Sharpe presented it to her as one of the many opportunities that honors has at UA…

Here is what I know…DD meets / has meet with the other Emerging scholars both this semester and last. They often had speakers fall semester, now they are preparing for a research project which the student chooses… She receieves credit for the program.

I did find this information …

First year students have the opportunity to work closely (one on one) with a faculty member in their field on different types of creative projects and research… the faculty member serves as a mentor.

DD does not live in a learning living community. But it is available.

On DDs schedule it reads as UA 155-01 Freshman Research with Dr. Sharpe

Just had a “text versation” w DD she confirmed the info to date…

She is currently waiting a match for her research professor.
When she gets matched she will schedule time to work with professor & do project. I would assume they do a presentation of projects/ if not the professor student is working with would be doing the grading.

According to the housing website, the Emerging Scholars Living Learning Community is located in the non-honors Ridgecrest South, South Tower. I’m surprised that UA does not have a website for this program.

Thanks so much for all the info! It is greatly appreciated :)
